UK VED on 'new' and 'Q' registrations

Can anyone confirm that as long as I use a pre-2001 engine that VED is still based on engine size?

Googling seems to suggest it is but I haven't found a definite answer and thought someone who's actually IVA'd and registered any Kit Car since 2006 but with an old engine may be able to comment.

Re: UK VED on 'new' and 'Q' registrations

VED is based on engine size for all kit cars. They are registered under the old PLG system, not the new private car system.

The only time the engine manufacture date comes into it is for the emissions test during IVA, and subsequent MOTs.
