IVA – Rear Light Requirements

I trial fitted my rear light clusters (usual GT40, Lancia Stratos etc units) last night and realised that the mounting surface is not vertical (15 degrees from vertical). I’d previously understood / read that they had to be vertical for the IVA, however after re-reading through the IVA manual I can’t find any specific reference. The only noteworthy comment is that ‘the rear reflectors must face predominately to the rear’ (was originally squarely to the rear & amended 29/06/2009). The only clear directive on position is that for the rear fog light, which states they should be ‘Fitted so that the reflector is facing squarely to the rear’
It’s not a difficult job to correct, but just another job to do!

Hi Andy

When I went for my IVA (Robin Hood) it failed on the reflector not being at 90 degrees. But when I went for a retest (after altering the reflector...) the tester said that they had received a confirmation that the reflector doesn't now need to be at 90 degrees. The lights (apart from the fog light) don't need to be at 90 degrees either.

Hope this helps
James

When I read the manual, my interpretation was the same as yours. I have fitted some temporary angled rubber spacing to behind the rear fog and reversing lights so that they are vertical (which I’ll remove after the IVA), but have left the indicator/rear lamp cluster mounted at the same angle as the body recess. For the main light/indicator cluster, the way I understand it is that provided the angles of visibility, the apparent surface area and the height off the ground are OK, it should be acceptable.
I guess whoever of us gets to the IVA first will be the guinea pig!!?
