Hi John,
Hi
It has all changed since the 1st of April and is now dependent on C02 emissions and list price of the car, i.e. if the list price of your car is more than £40k you pay £310 a year extra for 5 years.
This of course is no good for us as we do not have an emissions category for the engine, or a list price for the car.
In my own case I think I will be OK as I have a pre 1975 engine date, with certificate from Mick at Southern GT as he is authorised to issue them. What the criteria for list price is going to be I don’t know but I have every receipt. Someone did suggest ringing DVLA to ask which a good idea I haven’t pursued yet.
After fairly extensive research I have come to the conclusion that no one really knows and it is going to take a few cars going through the process before we know.
If you want to frighten yourself here are the current rates for “normal cars”
1. Cars and some motorhomes registered on or after 1 April 2017
You’ll pay a rate based on a vehicle’s CO2 emissions the first time it’s registered. This applies to:
o cars
o some motorhomes
Your motorhome’s included if both the following apply:
o it’s in the M1SP category - check with your dealer if you’re not sure
o its CO2 emissions are included on the ‘type approval certificate’ (this might be called a ‘certificate of conformity’ or ‘individual vehicle approval’)
If you have a different kind of motorhome, you pay tax in a different way.

You only have to pay this rate for 5 years (from the second time the vehicle is taxed).
Check the list price with your dealer so you know how much vehicle tax you’ll have to pay.
