Rear Hub/bearing Carriers

Hi Guy's

I'm stuggling to locate the rear hub/bearing carriers for my SGT, I'm planning on Cosworth rear brakes at first with the 273mm disc's vented.
I understand the cosworth has longer lugs on the carriers.

Can any one help.

Thanks Andrew

Hi Andrew,

Ive been working on that part of my GT 40 tonight.....If you cant find the bearing carriers you are after, another way to do it would get some bearing carriers from Darren, and fix the calipers directly onto the uprights

I'm not absolutely certain but I think the ones on the Scorpio are the same as the Sierra cosworth ones and probably easier to get hold of and cheaper too.

Hi Mike & Mickky

Thanks for your input Guy's, I have a pair of the MK3 one's but the lugs are about 10-15mm shorter than the cosworth ones as I understand it. The longer reach lugs enables the 273mm vented disc to be used and 15" wheels.

Darren uprights are a possibility however I have the SGT fabricated one all set up now.

There is a Guy on ebay selling billet carriers, but they are the shorter reach ones too.

cheers

Hi drew.

I'm intending on using the same rear brake setup as you. I purchased a set of rear hubs a carriers from ebay from a Granada Scorpio Cosworth. The Escort Cosworth uses the same I believe as well as later Sierra cossies.

Aren´t the lugs ( studs) are only pressed in studs ?

If so it´s usually fairly easy to press them out and reinstall longer ones ( which can be optained probably at ARP or other racing suppliers)

Drew buddy, long time no speak. I have a standard set of Mk2 hubs on mine and they work fine with the vented disc I am using, see here: http://www.gt40s.com/forum/gt40-build-logs/15571-bretts-rs-gtd-3.html#post174222

Hi Brett
Hope you and the family are well.

I got sorted with the rear brakes thanks. Granada calipers and 273 disc's, they will do for now!

I've went with the Hi Spec 4 pot front: which are a little close to the image wheels.
You may have noted that I went with Mick and purchased a new chassis. RH gear change etc.

Getting ever closer to putting that gearbox in!

Give me a shout if you have lost my number.

Cheers Drew

Hi Spec also do alloy front hubs which are much lighter than the cast iron standard items. I bought my setup as a complete kit from them.

Mike,

At the risk of hi-jacking this thread (apologies), can you give me details of what you bought from Hi-Spec. I was talking with them at Stoneligh last weekend and they seem to have a brake kit for my current Granada set up. My front and rear uprights are big industrial things, so I want to consider changing. Any info you have will be most welcome.

Brett.....how's the car coming along? My clutch exploded at 90mph in the fast lane of the M6 on the way back to Glasgow from Stoneleigh.......it's time to take the plunge and fit the Ford with the Audi (Skoda) 01X. I wasnt really planning on doing the conversion from the Rover until the winter......but I guess its kind of forced upon me.

Gulp.........

I have the GTD standard fit Granada Mk2 uprights at the front so I got the HiSpec 4 pot brake kit for these uprights.. They also do an alloy front hub (separate from the brake kit) which is much lighter than the standard cast iron lump which helps with the unsprung weight. I have attached a pic of the brake kit for Granada Mk2 upright with the alloy hubs. You get nearly everything you need in the kit as you can see. You will need to order from them the bolts to attach the disks to the hubs as they don't come with the kit.(why I don't know)

If you don't like the Granada Mk2 upright you can use the Granada Mk3 upright which has a better king pin inclination. However you will need the "mushrooms' to fit in the place where the strut usually goes and get some wishbones made up. Mick Sollis does all these bits. Pics of "mushrooms" and the final set up attached.

I don't know what you have on your car but I currently have some rear alloy uprights which will be for sale soon. Mamba Motorsport with 5 bolt Granada bearings and hubs.

Cheers
Mike

Mark,
1/ If you ever need someone to talk to HiSpec, they are only 10 mins drive from me. I may need to use them, as I think the Wilwood Handbrake caliper won't pass IVA, but will give it a go.

2/ As for the car, well progress is very slow as usual. Two kids will do that to you I guess; it is always the last thing on my priority list. Currently doign electrics and adding circuits and extra relay protection.

As for the box, all seems to work (turning by hand etc), though I am not happy with my original design for the cross-shift, so I have going to create a L arm bracket for doing that, as the current it is very tight, I need more adjustability than I currently have. I may draw something up, as It's easier sometimes to do that whilst looking after the kids.

Brett (Sorry for thread drift)
