| Goodwood Pictures Hi all
Everyone who could not attend or missed the GTD club track day at Goodwood I have got a few pictures for you to have a look at (please excuse the quality!). This was the first time I had attended such an event and it was most enjoyable. All of the cars looked superb and the owners were more than friendly. It was great to see these cars go on the track where they looked most at home!. It was like being time warped back to the 1960's. I have to say that the Gulf coloured GT (Malcolm I think) was going round that track like a bat out of hell. Great fun to watch!.
I also got to finally meet a lot of the people who I have chatted to in the past and helped me with my build, such as Frank Catt, Chris Cole, Robin Batt and others involved with the clubs. If anyone does get a chance to visit the next event, my advice is do. It was a good day out if you are a fan of these vehicles with lots to see.
Anyway I hope you enjoy the pictures.
Regards
Simon |

| Hi Fred
The rain was a bit on, off and back on again. Probably a bit of a nightmare for the owners going on the track. Still from a spectators aspect it was ok and I got to study some very well made cars. It would have been nice to see your car there Fred, a shame you could not make it. You can never have enough Gulf GT40's (but I am bound to say that!!!).
Regards

| Very nice 40s fellows! Really like that Jag too! Remember, you guys can all put photos in the Gallery (click link above in tool bar) and they can be huge in the Gallery, there might not be a pixel limit, just a physical filesize limit which is over 2 meg.
Ron

| Have to say that Roy and Paul (plus other committee members) did a good job of making the track day a great success, despite Goodwood Circuits efforts to clog the place up with their building works. I thought we had rented the facility for our use not theirs but there you go! From my position one of the best run days since I did it for the club!
My car was running very well until a freind dropped it in the kitty litter (trust me, he is suffering the ignomy of it!) and then when shaking the stones out on a road run we pinged a drive shaft. However big thanks to Rodger for supplying me a spare shaft and to Dave for help in fitting it so I could drive the car home. Also to Paul for coming out to tow me back to the circuit. Touching wood as I write, I have never bust a CV joint but just two drive shafts in 15 years. Wonder why my CV joints survive when other guys bust them regularly?
It was interesting that Jackie Oliver was there getting some testing in for the Revival. I had a chat with Kevin, his car prep man and he said that Jackie was quite complimentary about our cars considering his experience of original GT40s. I wonder if Jackie knew it was the GTD day when he was told to get to Goodwood for testing? Could have been a surprise if no one told him!!!!
Nice to see 1088 turn up and the owner came across as a really nice guy from what I hear. Shame it was chucking out oil and low on rpm from recent works so not fully up to speed on the track. Maybe next time....
The black Ford GT looked nice and menacing although with so many gt40 shaped cars about it stood out because of its more modern styling. I thought that was quite interesting! Didn't quite stand out as much as the Koennigseg (or whatever it is called!) though.
Wendy really liked Bjorn's Viper (maybe there is something about nurses and Vipers?) and Nadines Daytona was excellent. Thanks Nadine for stopping by my broke down car to check I was ok. The tyre marks you left might wash away by next year! I will leave Paul or someone else to make mention of the mini Viper. Cool!
Overall a fab day, thanks guys for organising it.
Yeah, Ron I did take my camera, but forgot to use it, sorry!

How did the Avons hold up? That is if you fitted the new ones for the track day

| A great day, with a little rain in the morning. Thanks for posting the pics Simon
Daz, glad Steph enjoyed herself and hope the journey back was not too bad. Great pics too!
The highlight of the day for me was being on track with Jackie Oliver:
Watching a driver with that much talent at close quarters is a real honour - the way he caught me was just spectacular, and watching him in my mirror sideways through St Mary's was, well, fabulous. I just wish I could have kept closer to him for longer..... Now I understand why he's a Le Mans winner and I'm not.
Particular thanks to Paul and Roy who gave up their time to take responsibility for the day and so couldn't join in. Things weren't easy with the demands imposed by Goodwood and I don't think I've ever seen Paul as stressed in the six years I've known him. Thanks guys!

| Avons were fitted and they were excellent. The rear end was very well planted and only in the wet did we manage to get any break away at all. The front end on the 215 tyres was a little loose, at least more than I wished for but we were experimenting with tyre pressures to bring it back to where we wanted it to be. Before we stopped running we were at a tyre pressure setting of 24 front and 28 rear (hot temps) and this seemed to be working well. However best solution is for Avon to make the 235 50 15s that I will now be hassling them for.
I wasn't the only new Avon runner there as Phil Froud was on them too. However he was endng up with similar pressures as I did, but other car issues made his concentration be elsewhere.
I have been playing with my anti roll bars and possibly with other changes the front bar is now too stiff. Softening this will mak a change to turn in but not enough testing to prove that theory.
Overall I was really impressed at the level of grip, even in the damp. Charles used to be able to keep me in his sights (and in the wet blow me away) when I was on the Dunlops but in my view no longer. Charles will, of course, have a different view on this! Just remember he is wrong and I am right!
As a road tyre they will be superb and now my car is fully road legal I intend to use them as such. Hope this helps.

| Excellent day chaps, well done Roy and Paul. The weather looked grim but as usual the forecasters got it wrong and it turned out great.
Anyway a little bit of rain is good for clenching the butt cheeks... So they tell me .Well Done.

| Looks like you had fun - I was abroad, otherwise would have come along.
How did the Ford GT fare against the GTD's?
Great pictures by the way, I particularly like the black and white you've posted elsewhere. |

| Hi Neil -
Most people seemed to have a good time and weather was fairly friendly, especially considering what had been forecast...
The Ford GT did not book for tracktime, but was brought along at lunchtime for the static picture shoot. Peter Saywell (owner), also brought along one of his Koenigsegg's - Awesome piece of kit!
It had been planned to clear the grid by opening the gate just after the pit lane, but this was not possible for some reason so a slow parade lap had to be hastily organised. This was led by the Koenigsegg and the Ford GT, both of which kindly took a lucky passenger for the lap. Andrew Batt was gifted the ride in the GT after John Bate was drawn and Nadine Geary jumped at the chance of the Koenigsegg, leaving her Datona Cobra in the pits for lunch.

| Thanks to the GTD40 club for an excellent day out.
This is just a suggestion but, would the drivers/owners be interested in giving passenger rides in their cars for a fee that goes to charity?
I race as an F1 sidecar passenger and when we race in France, we do this during the lunchtime break when there is no racing taking place (not allowd to do it in this crazy country) . All the places are pre-booked and paid for thus giving everyone the oportunity to have a ride. This is a really popular event in our racing calender and allows people who would not usually have the chance to ride a sidecar, the chance to experience something amazing.
I am not fortunate enough to own a GT40, and I have attended the last two GTD club events at Goodwood, but I feel I do not want to impose on someone elses day by asking for a ride in their pride and joy.
Like I say, its just a suggestion. (yes I am desperate to ride in a GT40!!!)
Some of my pictures of the day. I have loads more if anyone wants any? (including the starting grid lineup)
Regards
