SPF GT Throwout Install Supplement

This is a short supplement to the the install of an internal McCloud throwout bearing on an SPF GT. It makes the assumption that you installed the TO properly per the manufacturers instructions and that you also followed the transmission install instructions. The trans install details how to “lock down” the braided hoses inside the bellhousing. The braided hoses used in the TO install are subject to chafing and failure after a relatively short time if you don't take precautions to prevent it. The first thing to do is place a short 2-3 inch piece of heater hose over the hose going into the bellhousing so the braided hose can not come into contact with any part of the bellhousing. This heater hose will fit very snugly into the hole and needs no further attention.

At the other end of the bellhousing where the bleeder hose mounts, there is a casting boss on the side of the transmission. See below. Drill and tap a 10-32 hole into this boss. The depth needs to be no more than 3/8 of an inch. Use an Adel clamp (more commonly referred to as a “P” Clamp), tie the bleeder hose down so it can't move around. Remember, this hose is part of the entire clutch system and is under pressure when the pedal is applied. If the bleeder hose develops a chafe and leaks, your clutch action goes with it.
