Newbie - San Francisco

Hi,

I have just purchased a CAV GT40 and still have a large grin!! The car is running very rich. Does anyone have a good contact for adjusting weber carbs in the Bay Area? I suspect it might take me sometime to figure out how to get the carbs correctly set.

Thanks very much,

Karl

Welcome to the CAV family Karl. Sadly, I live on the other coast but I too have a weber carb'ed car. (44 IDF's) I love the Weber's but they can be tempermental although Jim Inglese swears that once you get them right "they're set." I have not been able to find the Weber Guru locally to help so I've been on the search and may have found my guy. I'm waiting to hear back from him. This of course doesn't help you but I know you will find someone in your area given you live in the mecca of the car world. Good Luck and Happy Motoring.

Thanks Craig!

Thanks Jimmy! I think it is right, that once they are set, it should be plane sailing! Not an easy thing to find on Yelp... Weber guru (not grilling!)!

Guys
Have you tried the VW air cooled shops in your areas

They use the same carbs, sure they only have two but they still need balanced etc

Ian, your thought has crossed my mind along with P-car specialists who deal with older Porsche's with Webers. Thanks for the suggestion. The guy I'm waiting to hear from apparently works on Lola's with the four huge Webers so I'm hoping he'll contact me.

Thanks very much for the suggestions and warm welcome. I have also purchased a book to do some reading to figure out the carbs.

did you look at the color of the plugs - are they all the same or some blacker than others? That'll tell if problem is localized to some carbs or all the same. What are the symptoms - plugs fouling at idle but ok when driving for example?
The first thing to check is the carbs are in good shape and don't need rebuilding, after that it's a question of following a fairly methodical process involving float level adjustment, air bypass for balancing, idle mixture and also potentially jet sizes. I've been through this successfully on a 4 cyl car (2 dual webers), but process should be the same.
