Re: CANAMSA - SA stratch build

Andrew volunteered to do some work on the nose of the car. This is the refined front view drawing, which was used to generate a tool path to cut the front 250mm of the nose. The part was cut in 3 sections which were glued together,

And today I glued the nose on. I am now looking forward to adding the remaining foam and blending it in once the glue dries.

Re: CANAMSA - SA stratch build

I would like to acknowledge the invaluable help I have received from several contributors to this forum, who have sent me photographs and measured dimensions from cars and bodywork that they own. Thanks a lot you guys.

I have still not yet personally seen a real (or replica) T70 spyder in the flesh and trying to get the proportions and some of the details more or less right from photographs has been driving me crazy, not helped by the fact that the model I started with, the original 60 series cars in period (and now), the Heritage cars, the GD / RCR narrow shell replicas etc are all slightly different in certain areas to each other.

I have tried to take the bits that I liked best from each of these cars and will hopefully end up with something that I at least think looks good. I am now happy with most of it, just want to do a bit more work on the rear air intakes, I now think they need to be a bit smaller and lean back less.

Cheers

Fred WB

Fred,

That looks phenominal. Your work astounds me.

Based on your and Des' work, after I finish my GT I am contemplating building my own creation and this thread is stunning inspiration.

Best of luck and continued productivity!

Fred, Nice work! I know what you are going through shaping out the body. I shaped out the Cobra Daytona Coupe body for Factory Five Racing the same way. What are you going to do for the widscreen? Are you going to shape it out your self or buy one from from TW in the UK, I think that's the name of the company. Glad to see you are changing the rear air inlets! There was something that didn't look quite right about them. A little flat maybe? I'm sure you will get them correct. Keep up the good work!!

Re: CANAMSA - SA stratch build

Thanks Guy, that Factory Five Racing Cobra Daytona Coupe body looks awesome, and lots more work than what I am doing.

I originally went with an open car as I didn't want to deal with opening windows, windscreen wipers etc.

WRT the screen, I am hoping to use a flat piece of Lexan cut to shape with a single plane curve. I don't like the look of the original style screen, and the scuttle on my shape is much higher than the original originals. I say that as the heritage cars seem to be higher there also.

WRY the rear air inlets, I think I have cut them too far back into the rear wings, so they are much bigger than they should be.

Cheers

Hey fred,
Heres a picy I took which gives you same perspective. If you need more pictures of any certain angles etc let me know as I live only 3 miles from a 'real' T70 !!
Good work, keep it up, you've inspired many.

Re: CANAMSA - SA stratch build

Thanks scratcher. I've been thinking for a while I have to add a bit more "bulge" to the inside side of the front wheel arch bulges (above the tops of the front wheels), and that top photo reinforces that.

My nose has ended up more like the "heritage" cars, or am I getting way too anal about this, and no one else sees any difference?

Cheers

Fred, it looks great. Lots of work there. Really super...
The front wheel openings are egg-shaped when viewed from the side.

Re: CANAMSA - SA stratch build

Thanks Johan

I haven't seen that green car before, looks great in that colour!

WRT the front wheel opening, I had noticed the egg shape, seems to be more pronounced on some cars than others, is this a mark 1 / mark 2 thing?

I had planned to "cop out" on this, and leave the rear and front of the opening vertical like the GD replicas. I am going the skin the sides below the belt line between the arches with ally, so could add a nose at the rear If I want later?

Just noticed that SA "Walls" car in the period BW pic below looks vertical at the rear, presumablity modified in period?

Cheers

Re: CANAMSA - SA stratch build

Seem to be getting there on the hip nostril.....

Ive made provision for a wider roll bar then on the originals, so the inner closeout point is more like a GD than an orginal

Cheers

Hey Fred, Don't be afraid to use that body filler. When I shaped out the body of the Daytona Coupe for Factory Five Racing, I used 96 gallons of body filler over the foam. Great stuff!!

Re: CANAMSA - SA stratch build

Is this some sort of 3-axis router?
I have done something like this before but used a vertical CNC mill, but the table was small which required me to divide my part up into many smaller sections.

I would be interested to know what this machine is, looks much more cost effective then a vertical mill!

Is that just hardware store foam your using?
