Lola T70 LoungeSpider and coupe talk, replicas and real.
Hi, thought you'd like to see the pictures I took at Brands Hatch yesterday. I will post up some brilliant video 'stuff' I took of the T70s on Youtube shortly.
Nice pics. You can just see me in the very first pic warming up Carlos's T70. You should have stopped and said "Hi". Actually managed to get some pics myself this time as we went off at Druids on the first lap and had a very "spare half hour" sort of race.... I'll try and get mine posted soon. All quiet now 'till Lemans Classic.
Hi Darren,
Well you will be pleased I took video of you warming up the Lola (didn't know it was you). III get it onto you tube soon!
I went to school in Tavistock so know Devon well, are you the owner / part of a Garage 'team' / or an indepedent mechanic etc ?!
I was put off saying hello as two 'chaps' with the T70 spyders told me my Grandfathers T70 Spyder would probably need to be re=put togther by someone who knows what they are doing, basically slagging the craftsmanship of our friends across the water! Now correct me if I'm wrong but was that just jealousy or just simply the truth ?
My understanding was that 'Lomac' as know by lola community as being a quality car builder !?
Not my car, more's the pitty, both the T70 and T212 are owned by Carlos Barbot. I work full time preparing/ repairing and restoring T70's for the well known T70 expert Clive Robinson. Probably had most of the 3B's running europe through the workshop at one time or another including all 7 that were there at the weekend. I know a bit about Lomac but I'll pm you on that one.
Not too far from Tavi as we are based in Paignton, although I live in Newton Abbot.
Anyway, looking forward to the youtube bits.
Ok I understand, so yes perhaps we'll be booking some of your time if possible. To be honest the car needs to be set up, and that is quite a job I suppose what the hourly rate for a man with your 'know how' !? Do you work on other customers cars regarding just the set up?
thanks, Matthew
Nice cars ! I recognize Frank Syntners spyder even sans "airdam", but do not know which Surtees Spyder that is.
"LoMac"? Never heard that term before. Sounds like a bit of good old fashioned rivalry
in the fold of Lola "experts".

...makes me laugh.
At last year´s SPA 6 hrs. I talked to one "expert" who treated me with a certain sense of contempt after the budget for my scratch build project wasn´t high enough in his eyes. And even though he, in his words, would only be "too happy" to sell me parts he has yet not even bothered to answer any emails at all. But could such behaviour ever put me off from doing what I am doing?
You can bet not.
Marcus,
I hear you. Most of the experts look at us replica builders with contempt. It's OK if they are building the car for you and charging the big bucks. Just look at some of the bickering on this site between manufacturers. This is just a hobby to me and I am not an expert but I am working on it. I have made lots of contacts so if you need anything just PM me and I will put you in contact.
Dave
I think that there might be even more involved than ordinary arrogance.
I suppose that, almost naturally, those "experts" making their living from these cars hate
the thought of guys like you and me being be able to build a quite decent authentic car
by themselves. (Understandably) commercial interest easily outdoes sharing the same passion and enthusiasm. Also, over the years they sure have talked to endless legions of dreamers who are not serious about it.
Marcus,
How true, however in my quest for knowledge I have found many people and parts, people who don't mind sharing or have resonable pricing or have stuff kicking around. So don't be afraid to ask. I come across Lola stuff all the time in my Chevron quest.
