First Ford GTTT (Twin Turbo)

I realise this forum's membership is an elite and sophisticated lot who generally aren't interested in juvenile displays of raw power, HOWEVER, I also figured there might be 1-2 here who would be curious to see what a 1012 RWHP, 898 lb-ft torque Ford GT is all about.

http://www.imvfilms.com/joesgttt.php

Don't watch this video if:

1. You have less than 30 minutes to spare. (it's 20 minutes long, and once it starts you'll be hooked)

2. You have any illusions that you already own the "ultimate street car". Wrong.

3. You have an incurable case of HP envy. This will make you want to go out and plunk down $160K for the GT plus another $40K or so for the TT kit.

Here's the creator's website: http://www.turbofordgt.com/

Looking forward to viewing it from home.

Re: First Ford GTTT (Twin Turbo)

I ran into the second one last night. I went to a cruise in about 10 miles from my house (just north of Dallas) and ended up parking right next to a Black Ford GT. The license plate on the car read TT GT. Talking to the owner the car is making 801 hp at the rear tires at 15lbs of boost. Turned up it will make over 1000hp at the rear tires.

This car was very impressive. As the car drove off it sounded Stock, nothing to give it away except the turbo box in the back window.

The car s really impressive...

...but can I post my stupid question?

They worked a lot on the turbo to increase so much the power....maybe I miss something, but they didnt touch at all the brake system O_o

Is the same standard forg geetee brake sys able to stop a car that is nearly twice in power?

Anyway incredible

Re: First Ford GTTT (Twin Turbo)

Paolo, if there was a way to "dyno" brakes, and post your brake dyno results on the internet to impress all your friends, then more people would consider upgrading their brakes. This car is for show and for pimping and street racing (highway roll, of course, see turbo lag comment below) and for bragging rights, it's not for going around a track fast. With the kind of turbo lag that goes along with 1,000+ hp, it would be damn hard to modulate the throttle and keep the car right on corner exit, let alone brake properly for the next corner.

Paolo,
You have never heard the old Peter Ustinov record of the "Grand Prix of Malta" where the Enzo Ferrari character says "Brakes?, It takes a genius to make a car go fast, anyone can stop" or something to that effect.

Same here...

Cool? Yeah but Mark(W)'s comment is very poignant. Personally, I think this dude should just go buy his own track- cause he's obviously got the money- and go flog it there. I think he's in the same league as THIS GUY.

Re: First Ford GTTT (Twin Turbo)

Saw this before and found it rather stupid. But then again I want a original with 600hp so with the power to weight ratio that may make me close to stupid as well

As the engine/gearbox seem stock, I wonder how long they will last?

ps, looks a lot of fun, but he may not see his next birthday at 180mph on the street!

Re: First Ford GTTT (Twin Turbo)

also looking at the tragedies we have seen here inside (ref. to german Cav dealer) really think the limit for a street use of the gt40 is around 450hp.
The ford gt,as a modern car can show up an even more powerful standard engine, but mayb works as those ones are just a way to show something special (and surely dangerous..)...even if u need the BIG car to go into club.

Maybe its just cause for me..the natural place for a ford gt or a gt40 is only the track..trying to drive her better and even better, and having fun this way.

If someone wants same fun, destroying a car...is enough to take an old M5, or a Supra..or an old Mustang...add a BIG super turbo and a NOS system...then call the guys from pimp my ride and u will have the dragster (or simply call someone in germany and ask for 1000hp they surely will help u).

..but again, really wonder why this rich guy dindt think at a better brake system surely available on the market, maybe from race cars...BOH..dunno

Re: First Ford GTTT (Twin Turbo)

i have a Q

Q: why would he need a better braking sistem, if he didn't do nothing to the gearbox the top speed would be almost the same

its not like the engine is pushing the car while you are braking, is it

Re: First Ford GTTT (Twin Turbo)

For the benefit of our friends in the US, we in the rest of the world have things called "corners".
They come at the end of, and start of, "straights".

With twice the power to weight you potentially get to these corners at much higher speeds and correspondingly you use much more brake.

Mark, re' brake dyno's and bragging rights - you speak the truth.

Tim.

Re: First Ford GTTT (Twin Turbo)

Raca
I agree on top speed but with all that much extra power he will accelerate faster over a given distance and then have to reduce the speed with the brakes.

If he does this a few times the brakes could overheat and then fade.

I would agree that the first thing you do before adding power is make sure it can stop!

Re: First Ford GTTT (Twin Turbo)

with the risk of an oftopic
i will make a nother question

i read on somebodys thread about braking fluid starting to boil in the brake caliper and ruber parts starting to melt because of the high temps created by the rotor and pads
my question is: how does the fluid and ruber parts stay togeder in cars that race at lemans(i can see the red hot rotors at night)

????

Re: First Ford GTTT (Twin Turbo)

This is a much more complicated question to answer than it first appears but leaving aside things like fluid types, materials etc - the basic idea is to get rid of the heat, as much as possible, from the disc to the air and not to the caliper etc.
Race calipers generally do not have rubber dust seals either.

Tim.

Re: First Ford GTTT (Twin Turbo)

i know about fluid types, i know you can run the braking sistem above the ambient presure to increase the boiling temp, but a nother question comes to my mind, dont they use rubber hoses

ps: if in my lack of knowledge, i am geting annoying, tell me and i will stop
