Rep Power: 0 | Just Drove A Gulf livery At our CVAR vintage race weekend a racer allowed me to use his Gulf Livery GT at TWS for a pace car for group 1. Wow what a car rides fantastic, drives great and power.. A drive I will not forget even if I did not get over 80mph. I am forever grateful to the car owner. |

Rep Power: 2 | Re: Just Drove A Gulf livery I wish they did the new FGT in Guardsman Blue or Vista Blue with white stripes or moustache, or at least something a little less sedate than Midnight Blue.... Nevertheless, I still like it.
Is it just me, or does the blue of the FGT Heritage Livery look different to Triumph Blue (?) as used on ol' 1075? It looks brighter to me, like it pops against the orange more...

Newer paint, brighter shine(???).
dwgrif: What did it shift like? And the controls.......Did it give your the feeling like you have driven it for hundreds of miles? Reason I asked is I had an opportunity to get a 944 Porsche for my company car back in 1979. The first time I drove it, all the controls were placed as such like it gave me the impression that I had driven it for hundreds of miles, and the car reacted accordingly. I would be interested to hear your thoughts about this type of a reaction to driving the new Ford GT.
Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts. | Aloha from Hawaii! While you're waiting for a reply from dwgrif, I thought I'd throw my .02 in from an owner's perspective. From the very first time I sat in and drove my new FGT, all of the controls fell readily into place and I felt very comfortable in the cockpit. The clutch action is extremely light and shifting very smooth (with the exception of 1-2 upshift notchiness when cold). FoMoCo targeted the Acura NSX in this regard and nailed it. The thick A pillars require a little time to get used to on the driver's side; however, one adapts rather quickly. The car is incredibly easy to drive quick and fast, both of which it does readily and capably.
I've lurked around here for a while and have enjoyed reading the posts and viewing your beautiful GT40s. Very nice. |

My wife and I are going to Maui in February for 10 days. What island are you on? If its Maui, I would love to hook up and see your car!

I would enjoy meeting you; however, I'm on Oahu. Enjoy Maui, as I know you will. Let me know if you make it over to Waikiki.
Aloha,

The island hopper rates are real low I hear. This will be our 4th trip to Maui, so we may consider an island hopper flight to see a different part of the islands. I am a firm believer that if its not broke, don't try and fix it too.
Keep in touch.

Keep in touch. | Gary,
The island hopper rates are the lowest they've been in years as a result of a third air carrier entering the fray. Come on over and I'll give you a good deal on accommodations as we have about a dozen hotels in Waikiki.

The wife and I have paid $$$ that kind of locks us to the Condo on Maui, but I have no problem with doing a long day trip over your way. I will send you a PM with the dates and times we will be getting into Maui and what Condo we will be at.
Would be fun to spend some time with you and do car stuff.
Talk to you later,

Rep Power: 8 | Re: Just Drove A Gulf livery Damn, DWGRIF--CVAR was at TWS last weekend and I missed it?!?!
I know the guy who drives that mustard colored Boss 302 Mustang right behind your fist in that last photo. Here's hoping Dan made it without breaking down this time--the last time I spent with him up at TWS he had ignition problems, plagued him all weekend, but we got it fixed and he went home feeling pretty good--he said any time he can drive it onto the trailer for the trip home it's been a good weekend.
CVAR is a real good time!
Doug

Rep Power: 1 | Re: Just Drove A Gulf livery Hey guys, I am new to the forum although I have been lurking her for over a year. I have always wanted a GT40 since my father took me to Lemans in '67. I am not rich so other priorities have not allowed me to pursue ownership of one of the remakes to date. However, having finally paid for my daughter to finish university and helped her to enter the adult world of commerce, I am putting together the money to get in the game.
One question, why hasn't anyone with a GT in Gulf livery painted the wheel-centers orange to better duplicate the origional cars. IMHO this would enhance that color combination. Maybe someone has and i have just missed it. I would be interested in your comments. |

Snag is I think it is the wrong blue for a true gulf car even though mine is meant to be Triumph Powder blue! So clearly there are many interpretations on this one :-)
