Original GT40s at Classic Le Mans

Last weekend I went to the Classic Le Mans and decided to take a few pictures of the GT40s for GT40s.com

As my history is with Ferrari I am used to writing down chassis numbers and I assume these are also interesting in the GT40 world of enthusiast.

Please don’t start a discussion on the copyright note I added to the pictures, I just don’t like to see my pictures on any other websites or magazines/books (I kept the quality very low) without my permission.

I will do Grid 5 later this week (it’s nearly bed time and I’ll have a tackday at Zandvoort tomorrow).

The body on this GT40 was a lot lower than normal, similar like the blue Ray Bellm car (raceno. 30).

The start of the race for grid 4

Grid order (1^st till 5^th as in the picture)

Right before the start one of the mechanics came up to John Hugenholtz and said: ‘no pressure John, but I just put ffice:smarttags" border="0" alt="" onload="NcodeImageResizer.createOn(this);" />50 Pounds on you being the first away from the start’. From these five GT40 John was 2^nd quickest, but further down the starting line the driver in the number 42 was easily the quickest of all.
Immediately after the start Ray Bellm showed his experience and easily drove into the distance, although it must be said that the body on his car is a lot lower than on most of the other GT40s and his engine seems to be running a lot smoother than the others. Most people in the know were convinced he had more than 400 bhp behind his back.

Maxted-Page in the UK looks after this GT40 for the Australian owner. They are allowed to take the car out in special events like the Classic Le Mans, but they make sure they will NOT drive the car on the limit and stay out of trouble.

May I be the first to congratulate you on some awesome pictures, they are some of the best I have ever seen of 40s at Le Mans.
I hope you will keep them coming and remember to take more 40 shots and less Ferrari ones!
I love your euphemism that the Belm engine "seems to be running a lot smoother than the others" ......that is one way of putting it!
