Smile P/1042

I received this rather exciting email from Dave Brown of Classic Car Developments today-
"Hi Andrew,
We now have the rear end completed, by fitting the rear drive shafts & brakes all look very good.
close now to road test?

Regards

Thumbs up P/1042

Just got these photographs from Dave Brown at CCd. Next will be the shock absorbers and springs- fronts 8"x25" IND by 650 lbs and rears 10.5"x2.5" IND by 550 lbs. Please note the period original "COBRA Powered By Ford" valve covers, which some GT40s wore as they had Cobra-spec 289 motors installed. 1042 being an example. I found some original Shelby parts lurking in a distant corner of EBay. Surprising what turns up when you don't expect it!

Re: P1001

Great to see it standing on its own 'feet' Andrew. A job in Bluff Harbour will take me down that way sometime over the next week, so I shall call in to CCD and check it out (and deliver some parts for my car). Hopefully I can hear it running.

Thumbs up P/1042

Received more photographs and a message from CCD today. Note the road trim door cards, which I liked the sound of-
"Hi Andrew,
Here are more pics, We have now done some miles in the car. Did a full set up first on the suspension all with in a millimetre , firstly had to change all the jets to get some horsepower then dress the brake pads to get some brakes, Went for ten mile run all went well.

Re: P1001

Love the photos Andrew....keep them coming. What a car! The photo of the rear really shows the unique details of P1042. I assume the door is opened via a pull string not seen in the photo as I do not see the lever normally associated with these doors. The door cards are another unique item I like.

Re: P1001

Forgive my jumping in Andrew. Yes Jimmy, there is indeed a pull string inside the door pocket.

Re: P1001

The scoop on the righthand fender on the side is that for cockpit ventilation or a cooler?

Re: P1001

The scoop is in the door. You can see where it comes into the cockpit in the picture of the door card. The location is clearer in the picture in post #445 above.

P/1042 (1001)

I understand road MkIs had the door trim, as seen in the photographs below of GT40P/1063. The airscoop on GT40P/1001 can be seen in historical photographs back to late 1966-early 1967, when it competed in the Springbox series; presumably because it's extra hot there, although it's going to be mighty chilly in the good old UK! SeMonochrome photo of the door pictured back in 1970 below-
