Wow.. I've personally not seen that colection before. I certainly would have remembered the rear fins added to that car..

I must say that I like the car in its last restoration in Gulf livery much more that the color scheme and presentation shown above.

What else strikes me as very curious is the scoop on the hood panel between the nostrils..

Do you suppose those fins actually improved the car's aero/cornering any?

Judging from the fact this is the only '40 I've ever seen sporting them, I have my doubts. (Yes, I see different colored/numbered 40's in the pics. 'Assuming they're the same car with different lipstick???)

This is the only "finned" one I remember.



I think it was an early MKII (or at least a MKI with a 427) with an odd, long nose at the Le Mans test day, 1965? I'm pritty sure it was not raced like this.

Looking at the photos of the red #12. My first thought was that the ducting was for interior/driver cooling, but the overhead shot shows what looks like a second exit opening right against the windshield. Perhaps this was just odd ducting for another oil cooler?
