Ford GT40 P1048 at Le Mans, 4/18/71, for the 3 hour race held in conjunction with the Le Mans April trials. Owned and driven by Jean-Pierre Rouget. Car caught fire during the race and was burned out. The stern little boy is the son of the photographer.

Interesting the lack of rear bodywork a la 917, and 'burned out' despite a hefty looking fire bottle.

I wonder how much (if at all) the lack of rear bodywork contributed to the extent of the fire?

I believe the cause of the fire was contact with the wall.
