Well i've (my brother & myself) just booked my tickets & accomodation package.
Staying at TravelLodge Southbank (near Crown Casino) and "living" in the "Prost" grandstand, which looks down the pit straight. Sat there in 2000, and got a great view.
Will be driving down overnight wed, at the track thu, fri, sat, sun. Drive home monday.
Looking foward to meeting all fellow Gt40-aholics over a beer or ten. [img]/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif[/img]

Hi Guys, have a question about the general admission areas.
How well can you see the action on the track , can you get a clear view ( viewing mounds or anything) and are those areas so crowded that you really cant work from area to area to watch the race. Also what do those tickets usually go for a day (they dont sell them yet and dont show any price yet)track map Thanks [img]/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img]

Go to the track map and click on a particular grandstand.

The linked page has the features of the grandstand, as well

as the ticket price for that area.

You can see a fair bit from genaral ad. walking around the perimeter. We did this on practise days. But on race day, could be tough to get close enough.

Dan,
As Tim suggested, there are a number of spots in the general admissions area where you can get a good view. On race day however the best spots are taken by those who turn up early and stake their claim, which is what you would need to do if you wanted a spot. Anywhere either side of the Clark and Waite stands are best in my opinion if you want to see the cars arrive from a distance, take some corners and disappear in the distance again. However, there are a number of interesting spots either side of turn 5 where you can experience the cars and sounds up close. Its almost frightening listening to the BANG-BANG-BANG of the gears on shift down as they fly toward you... something the TV really doesn't pick up.

Worth mentioning though. The turn 5 area was where, sadly, the official was fatally injured so there may have been some changes made to public access.

Dan,

Lots of space to get a real good view. I recommend "Brocky's Hill" which has a great view of a real tight bend and then a long accelerating bend. There is also a BIG screen opposite to keep you up to date. This area is frequented by the Irish , so it is a quiet and reserved area with very little drinking, singing or general bad behavoir.

Regarding the trip, cooperate tents are EXPENSIVE (AU$ 1000 a head) and my budget does not even allow ME to do that. Regarding the Historic tent, this is on request by the organisers and my position is not for definate. I definately will not get TWO cars there but hope to have one.

Over the week end / week I would more than welcome any visitors. I am happy to organise a gig visit with food etc. Give me some dates.

I fully recommend the Phillip Island Historic Races always run the week end before the F1 week end. The cars on display in the area we have our car houses ALL the cars of interest that raced at the "Island" the previous week end.

Seriously though - Saturday night would get my vote.
Under the current 2004 F1 schedules, all of the decisions on cooling, approximate weather and wind components for Sunday have been made and there is much less (for me ) to do on Sunday a.m. as the machines are still in Parc Ferme.
(This does, of course, not include any other events that the circuit may be planning). On Sundays, I don't normally boot my kit up until around 0700 and I'm not required to attend for work until 0900 whereas Friday and Saturday mornings,for me, all start at 0500.

I've been trying to work out these dates and I think the European at the Nurburgring could be the problem. I 've see snow in the area as late as then and the Renault does not lend itself to snow chains or tyres with spikes or studs. [img]/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif[/img] I'm sure the Melbourne date is good as probably are most of the others. It's going to be a long season though.Lets hope schumaker retires or it will be even more tedious.

Have any of you made your reservations to fly down under. I'm leaving on the 24th of Feb and won't return until the 7th of March. I am really looking forward to seeing the races and meeting some of the forum members in person. Good Morning Australian Gentlemen ,
I've been tasked with 5 flyaways in 2005 - Montreal, Indianapolis, Brazil, China, and Japan + 11 Europeans so regrettably Melbourne is not now on my list. If I can get down anyway, I'll try but it's not going to be on duty now.
