Importing into the UK from the US

OK, I know it's not strictly GT40 related, But maybe there'll be someone here who can advise me.
I am looking at importing a (damaged) motorcycle into the UK from Illonois in the US. Is it straightforward? who should I speak to? is there anything I should know about importing a damaged vehicle?
Thanks guys, any advice, pointers greatly appreciated.

Simon

Re: Importing into the UK from the US

I am looking to import a cedar log cabin in the near future. Apart from Custpoms & Excise I also spoke to shipping/frieght agents who deal with the detail and they tell you a lot as part of their quoting system. Yellow Pages is only option unless you have a contact.

Sorry Malcolm, I don't think a log cabin will fit in a suitcase.........

Re: Importing into the UK from the US

Wendy house? More like another dog house for me alongside the garage.....I call it an office!

Fit it in a suitcase? No chance. This one is coming in a 40 steel container with the biggest single component a 37 ft long log about ranging from 18 to 14 inches in diameter. And of course that goes along the ridge. Any ideas on how to adapt an engine hoist to lift that into place?

Wendy house really! hee hee
