Ford Capri Parts - Help from UK Friends?

Fellows,

It turns out (I think) that a TR8, a 260Z, and a Jensen Healey ALL can use 1974 Ford Capri V6 brake calipers. And, these calipers can use Datsun 240z brake pads which are very common.

Now, this is simply amazing because me and my buddies race a TR8, Jensen Healey, and a 260Z. Man, what a coincedence!

My question involves front calipers. This car is almost non-existant in the US but I was wondering if someone in the UK could check some pricing or availability for some 1974 Capri V6 front calipers? I'm still looking into it to make sure it is 100% true, but I think it is. If so, we might want a couple of sets to standardize our front brakes across three cars.

If anyone that knows Capris or knows someone that does could put me in touch with them I'd appreciate it.

Thanks much,
Ron

Hi Ron

I know these guys do quite a few capri spares GMS
They ship worldwide.

But I know of some suppliers in the US, HD Rogers they may be a bit closer to home.

Cheers

Joe

PS I had 3 Capri's but totalled all of them, still a good car to learn to drive fast in though, plenty of work etc

Re: Ford Capri Parts - Help from UK Friends?

Hi Ron,

You can get these from AutoZone as a special order item (available online). They are Fenco Reman (nice quality, I have them on my Capri).

AutoZone part# C8273 (drivers side), C8272 (pass side) $51.99 + $22.00 core each (2 piston)

They also carry them in Morse rebuilt, but they come preloaded with shoes that you will need to toss. These are AutoZone part# P244 $89.33 $95.00 core - this for a pair.

Regards,

Al

Re: Ford Capri Parts - Help from UK Friends?

Thanks Al,

I just came back from Advance and found the same thing. Hell, with pads they were $62.00 and no core charge!!!!!! Just $62 and caliper with pads is mine. I like living in the US.

My folly was not asking for them as a Mercury, which Advance Auto lists under, and not Ford. The picture looked right on as far as fitment!!!

Re: Ford Capri Parts - Help from UK Friends?

I thought it was quite an odd coincidence that I had just walked in from the garage working on our (late model) Capri to take a break and check the forum, only to see your message on this topic! You can see what I happened to be doing at the time...

Now this is what I call a Capri........ something like 1100 BHP off a big block chevy......

He is my engine builder, and I also have a friend who is squeezing a 302 V8 into his capri.....nice in a straight line but those things called corners might be a problem....

Re: Ford Capri Parts - Help from UK Friends?

sorry Ron got so excited with the capri photos I forgot this....

http://www.speedshack.co.uk/Brakes.htm

I rang them and they seem to think that the 1974 V6 capri is a Mk II with solid discs type m16 a pair of these will cost £40 in the UK they ship worldwide and can do credit card sales over the phone. Allernativly email them on...

sales@speedshack.co.uk

Hope this helps.....

Re: Ford Capri Parts - Help from UK Friends?

I just talked to Kevin at C.R.A.P. Conversions (yes I had to do a double take with that name) and I told him about the front brakes you were after, he warned me that although you can get good second hand calipers, the discs are no longer made by anyone!!! assuming your using the standard discs that is.... just thought I would let you know....

Re: Ford Capri Parts - Help from UK Friends?

Hi Doc,

FYI - In the states you can still buy them (online) at AutoZone for $19.00 and I bet AdvanceAutoParts also.

Al
