track time

My name is Jim Estabrook and I am a Ford dealer. My son and I are going to keep our GT40 but we would like to be able to rent time on a track somewhere so that we can play with it without endangering anyone. Any suggestions?

Join a Cobra Club and enjoy the track days they hold. The tracks near the club will be used and you will learn a lot.

If you want the track all to yourself you'll have to spend a small fortune to rent the track for a half day or a day. The alternative is to ask around and sign up for an "open track" or "performance driving" event. These events are organized by the likes of PCCA, BMWCCA, Car Guys, and others. These groups regularly rent out tracks, pretty much every day of the week in season. You could call a track local to you and ask around. Find out which events are run like a tight ship and avoid the ones where the boy racers play dukes of hazard or fast and furious. You'll be entered into a novice group and given an instructor. Have fun and be safe.
