Re: An appropriate Tow Vehicle

Just wondering Tim, have you got your GT40 ? It's either a bad time to ask or you're having so much fun it that you haven't had time to tell us about it -- hoping that is the case

cheers Chris

Bill I traded the Jag on the V8, bigger brakes, more HP, better sound(IMHO). I will post pics when I take Delivery.

Congratulations on your purchase
What specs did you order? I'm sure you'll love it when you get it.... Well, in reference to this thread, did you get a tow bar with the car?

Re: An appropriate Tow Vehicle

My tow vehicle (a couple of years ago) !

I reckon that they are like luxury boats - far better to have a friend who owns one than actually funding one yourself !!

Kind Regards,

Peter D.

Re: An appropriate Tow Vehicle

Pete, now the Jag's gone, what are you going to do with all those spare tool kits containing Lucas fuses, Lucas wiring diagrams, prayer books, socket sets to fit the FI hose clips, rust preventative spray cans, home phone numbers of Jag experts, etc ?

I had an XJS years ago (and all of the above were mandatory) - I even had to buy an old MGB as a backup car !!!

The XJS experience is what drove me to buy the Corvette - I thought "What is diametrically opposite from a Jag - a plastic bodied car (no rust (ha ha ha)), & a simple giant truck engine up front" ! I got around 10 years of totally trouble-free motoring out of it, but the resto has now been going on for 6 years ! Should be back on the road by the end of this year (probably just in time for for oil to crack the $100/barrel barrier, knowing my luck) !

Enjoy the new car !

Kind Regards,

Peter D.

Re: An appropriate Tow Vehicle

Peter, the S Type wasn't too bad, except the computer has a nasty habit of going into "limp" mode. That is everything shuts down and the engine will only idle. A bit disconcerting on the freeway. It is in the Jag shop as we speak, while they try for the umpteenth time to find the problem.
I once owned an E-Type, so know what you mean about rust, Lucas Etc. How about some pics of the Corvette restoration? I'm sure Ron won't ban it for at least a week.
Bill I didn't order a Tow Bar, after market is about half the price. I ordered the full spec GT-P with all the bling.

Re: An appropriate Tow Vehicle

Not only were the sills & windscreen frame rusted out, but so was the chassis - here's a pic of the new one (only took 18 mths to get a decent one from the US & reconvert to RHD) :

Re: An appropriate Tow Vehicle

Having gone so far, why not change it from an SB Auto to a BB Manual ? Originality went out the window with the LHD to RHD, so who cares about matching numbers ? The BB is a fairly mild job & should be good for over 450hp - plenty of room for improvement later !

Re: An appropriate Tow Vehicle

After re-inforcing under the rear deck & the guards, I am now looking forward to prepping the underside of the body & the engine bay (not) - (I have a mate who specialises in mid-year Vettes - he is doing all the external hard & artistic stuff, whilst I get to do all the sh*t work - glassing & sanding in places nobody will see !).

Our current plan is to have the old girl back on the road by the end of this year - we'll see !!

Re: An appropriate Tow Vehicle

Peter really interesting, nearly as much rust as the E-type.
Judging by the early photo you should have kept the Grecian
2000 up.

Re: An appropriate Tow Vehicle

"Interesting" it has been ! With the amount of rust I had to deal with, my hair should be red, not grey !

But now there is no rust left at all (just ask my neighbours where it goes when I am sitting out in the driveway sand-blasting a stack of small bits & pieces) !!

Way too late for the Grecian 2000 - I should have started that in a subtle fashion years ago. A sudden change now would just cause even more more hilarity !

Besides, the grey (I like to call it "distinguished") look seems to keep the cops at bay (at least, so far) !

Kind Regards,

Peter D.

Re: An appropriate Tow Vehicle

Well Peter as you can see from my avitar you don't have an exclusive franchise on the grey department, although I prefer to call it silver. Funny isn't it when I had black hair I thought grey meant "old fart". Now like you, I think grey means distinguished. I hope you are right about the grey/silver keeping the cops at bay, but it just might be that beautiful car of yours. They might think that no one with a car like that would risk binning it by driving too fast.
