Iran

Breaking news here at 1700 utc. Iran is buiding 3000 atomic centrifuges.
OH dear - here it goes again. WOMD and all that crap.
Turn the whole place into a 'nucular' desert and lets have a bit of peace in our time.

They claim they are only going to enrich Uranium to use in nuclear power plants....Yeah Right. That's right up there with "a GT40 never won at Le Mans".

Re: Iran

Isreal is going to have something to say about that. I am afraid nuclear conflict is inevitable. I hope it is not us this time.

Re: Iran

I avoided the other thread, as I usually avoid all those types of threads on the internet.
I will only say this and post no other. I think there is a BUNCH of hypocracy in the countries that already have nukes to believe that only THEY are responsible caretakers. I will point out the Israel has nukes, which they are reluctant to acknowledge, because it is in strict violation of the UN charter that allowed the to be. Why is it we have never put pressures on them that we seem to put on all others....hypocracy. It also allows our leaders to work the population into a frenzy so we can rationalize a military action. We are a nation of short memoried hypocrites. WE set the standard of owning a nuke in order to be consider a "player" in the world stage, and then when someone that we have differences with moves in that direction, it is a threat to world peace. I don't buy it anymore than I did the Iraq BS. I gave several speeches at the local University prior to the Iraq invasion...every single thing that I predicted has come to pass. Why could none of the elected officials see the same??? I want to see it be harder to invade another country and easier to leave than the current reverse of that.

Re: Iran

Re: Iran

This is an interesting topic for a car forum but here goes, in my opinion we are making too big a deal out of North Korea and Iran, neither country has the budget or technology to be a threat to the West. Both countries are clamoring for attention on the world stage, they are patghetic in their attempts to hide the failure of their economic and political systems from their own people. The same thing will happen to them that happened to the Soviet Union, the transfer of information world wide is accelerating and even the poorest countries have access to outside news that conflicts with what the local govts are spewing. We have the ability to determin where the fissionable material(used in a bomb) was manufactured and processed, countries like Iran and North Korea know that they will never have enough capability to actually use their weapon more than once, the West has the capability and would have the resolve to destroy their societies completely if they were ever so foolish as to actually attack or threaten us.
The Rulers of these small countries are all big fish in tiny little regional ponds and never seem to get off the reservation and actually see what the industrial or military capabilties of the US actually are. Saddam made that mistake and so did Gaddafi, Saddam is dead and Gaddafi is now a much better world citizen. We, and the world, would be better served to let these countries squander their economic and intellectual wealth on their idiotic "Keep up with the Jones" philosophy. They will bankrupt themselves as the Soviets did trying to match us dollar for dollar back in the 80's.
IMHO

Re: Iran

Woodz, an intersting view point. Not that far from mine to be honest.

However, what you've overlooked is the financial aspect of stirring up a frenzy. Being in conflict provided the governemet(s) with a reason to sustain such a large military presence, generates jobs for those in the forces and those outside of it that manufacture or supply goods and services to it.
Imo this is what it is all about.

I totally agree, double standards are being exhibited.

Now add to this that locals who are injured in the fighting, but need hospital attention or recouperation not available there are often flown to England/America/France in order to get said treatment, at the countries expense (ours as tax payers actually) and allowed to stay afterwards if desired. This has created a scenario where people are injuring themselves in order to get medical attention and so leave the country.
It was told to me by my brother in law, who has done a couple of tours in the services hospitals, and is due to go back in a few weeks. He has no reason to lie to me, so I believe it 100%, although you may choose not to.

The issue of world press informing people all over is interesting too. It now seems many are more concerned with what goes on elsewhere than at home. Why not spend some of this money on getting our own houses in order before we go trying to dictate to others how they should run their countries.
