The Racing World Loses a Legend

Dick Smith, who set a record of 198MPH in an orignal 427 Cobra at Daytona race track, was killed yesterday in a plane crash near Tahachapi pass in California.

Terrible loss

Wow, what a loss. I had the pleasure of meeting Dick at the Factory Five
Nationals at Infineon in '02. What a great person to get to talk to.

I had a change to meet Dick at the Montery Historics a few years ago. Truely a gentleman. Best to his family.

One of the nicest guys you will ever meet!! A great driver who enjoyed life to the fullest. I was fortunate enough to have Dick take me for several laps, at speed, in my then newly finished 40. I have been hooked on Willow Springs ever since!! I am sure he will be missed by many and my sympathy goes out to his family for their tragic loss.

I met Him at Factory Five a while back. We had a good time talking about the "old days". One of the nicest guys you could meet!
