I have been asked to provide some suggestions for a mates 40th birthday present. He wants to do a good rally experience, ie do the driving etc. I have no idea what's available and wondered if anyone here could help? Location needs to be reachable from Surrey, UK. Thanks in advance.

Hi Malcolm,

A few years ago now but I once had a full day (and that's a VERY full day) with the Forest Experience Rally School in a MkII Escort. Forest Experience Rally School Wales, Rally Driving Days Wales

They're in North Wales about 40 miles west of Shrewsbury - so not too handy for Surrey - but then they do offer the opportunity of using genuine forest roads. The principal instructors are Mark and David Higgins - pretty serious rally drivers. Highly recommended.

No connection, etc, etc...

Regards,

Jim

Malcolm,

I couldn't quite remember the name of the school I was thinking of so I just did a quick search on google... and was quite surprised at the number of rally schools in the UK!

Can't recommend one to you, but am sure your friend will have the time of his life. I raced off-road for several years and the rush of adrenalin, coming into a blind turn at speed, never diminished. You should take the school with him!

Best,

T.

I watched somebody have a go at the Brands Hatch Rally course a few years ago. i may have a video, send me a PM if you want me to dig it out( it will be electronic as i was playing with video capture at the time....nerd!!!)

Malcom-

I actually attended the 2 day Forest Experience school and it was a blast. Tony was the instructor and one of the sons was around for the weekend. Good stuff to learn but since I still paid for whatever I would break in the woods, it didn't make me much faster. Good times though and they took pretty good care of us too.
