True Paolo, but sometimes trading in the old models can result in an extreme loss, with some of my friends to the point of Bankrupting them.
You have to be very careful or very very rich to get a new model every three or four years.

This thread should change it's name to buying and trading new and used.......cars?

Also when looking to buy or rent a new car one should never do so when one has had a drink.
In Australia there is a model manufactured by Holden I think, called the "Dingo Ugly" version. I believe in America the same model exists called "Coyote ugly".
Unfortunately both have the strange knack of looking quite good late at night when you have had to much to drink and it is only in the cold hard light of day that you discover the rust and worn exterior and the awful paint work.
Do not let your friends see you driving these models; you will be ridiculed even more so than if they had seen you in a Volvo.(Sorry David)
I am sure similar models are available in Europe, but I am not sure what they are called.

The Kiwi's are coming!

Newly crowned 2006-2007 Parker ENZED NZ V8 champion John McIntyre, recipient of Motorsport NZ’s prestigious Jim Clark Trophy, returns to V8Supercar competition this weekend at Queensland Raceway.

Driving the #61 Race Image BA Ford Falcon, prepared by Prodigy Motorsport, McIntyre returns to the Australian scene fresh from a strong result at the Nurburgring 24 hour event in Germany.

McIntyre joins fellow Kiwis Chris Pither and Kayne Scott in the Fujitsu Development Series event, which is a support category to the V8Supercar main series at the Willowbank circuit.

McIntyre last saw service in V8Supercar at Sandown, Bathurst and at the Indy 300 event, in 2004 with WPS Racing and saw the chance to get some much needed miles in a v8 supercar with a view to driving in the Endurance Races in the future

maybe a good way to use some special cars is to become a...."test" pilot.
I always had a sort of big envy to Top Gear staff....every week u change car..and they pay u to drive theme "extremely".

Btw, the rusty mature models u are referring to Pete here are named as "cancelli".. "tardone"..."babbione"..and u need to be VERY drunked to drive such ones properly...

Good advice there. In Scotland plug ugly cars are called mingers. Morris Mingers are the most common.

Some more information if you have alcohol from dealers when out looking for a rental or even a personal drive, be careful as to which showrooms you visit.
I am told that in the South Seas, some car dealers sell false goods and your drive may not all it turns to be. So when you get it home it turns out to be bi-turbo or even one that prefers a driving style in reverse.

My advice is, try to check the sump out right way for hidden extras. Better still, get a model that is checked out by a friend first.

LOL, this reminds me a(nut) friend I have here...buying at 18 birthday a BMW 540 v8 (he loves v8 s too) bought from a fellow very similar to trasformer movie car dealer (moving hands a lot and screamin a lot..).
The car survived for 2 months, then blowed angine and gone gear shifting.
That Bmw never had a maintenance since she comed out from Munchen factory..but in that 2 months she made about 10000 spin and drifts all over.

Jimmy you are certainly correct about the South Seas. Some years ago I was at a sales convention in Tahiti, and one of my salesmen was trying to get a test drive with a very racy model. After some close encounters and some paint swapping, he checked out the sump, only to find that this model was designed with a gear lever there.
His cries of anguish, anger and disappointment were heard for miles.
Of course we let him live it down after....well no we didn't.

Dumbrell to miss Queensland Round

Release Date: 18/07/2007Supercheap Auto Racing Driver Paul Dumbrell will miss Round Seven of the V8 Supercar Championship at Willowbank Raceway this weekend.

Dumbrell fractured a middle finger knuckle on his left hand prior to the Darwin round with pain killing injections allowing Dumbrell to drive at Hidden Valley .The injury required surgery on his return to Melbourne. Pins were inserted during the operation ;however the finger requires a few more weeks to fully heal.

Dumbrell drove briefly at the teams test day at Winton Raceway yesterday to test the finger however it was decided in the best interests of Dumbrell and possibility of further injury that he sit out the Willowbank round. This measure will ensure he is 100% fit for round eight of the Championship at Oran Park in four weeks time.

Paul Weel will take Dumbrell’s spot for the Willowbank round. Weel attended the teams test day at Winton yesterday and spent most of the day behind the wheel of the SCAR #20 VE Commodore.

Dumbrell’s misfortune gives SCAR endurance driver Paul Weel valuable race miles behind the wheel of the VE Commodore he’ll be piloting at the Sandown and Bathurst endurance rounds.

Extra octane boost for Jonathan Beikoff and Shane Beikoff Racing for Queensland Raceway

Release Date: 18/07/2007Queensland V8Supercar team Shane Beikoff Racing and Brisbane-born V8Supercar driver Jonathan Beikoff will get an extra boost for their home V8Supercar race with extra support from the Queensland Government’s ethanol Campaign ‘+e Ethanol Powered by Nature’.

The Shane Beikoff Racing AU Falcon #68 V8Supercar will be re-liveried in the Queensland Government +e Campaign branding, with predominant signage on the sides of the AU Falcon V8Supercar, as well as track signage and a public stall at trade alley at Queensland Raceway.

“This weekend’s Queensland Raceway round will feature the introduction of the latest +e Campaign, with the Queensland Government increasing their efforts in conveying to the public the benefits of ethanol blended fuels on the roads,” Team Manager Shane Beikoff said.

“A team of ethanol educators, known as the +e team will be at the trade alley over the weekend talking to motoring enthusiasts and explaining these benefits to V8Supercar fans. If the public have any questions regarding using ethanol blended fuels in their road cars I encourage them to speak to the +e team,” Shane continued.

“All cars participating in the 2007 V8Supercar Series will be racing on a high octane, 5% ethanol blended fuel – V-Power Racing and I personally use ethanol blended fuels when driving off the race track as well.

The benefits of using renewable ethanol fuels are numerous, including lower emissions, a slight increase in engine performance and it reduces our reliance on burning fossil fuels,” Shane explained.

Orrcon Ford Credit FPR Falcon driver Mark Winterbottom has started Queensland's Raceway's round seven by blitzing the field with the fastest lap in Friday's opening V8 Supercar practice.

The 26-year-old blue oval racer known as Frosty sizzled around the 3.1 kilometre circuit in 1 minute 10.6040s, the culmination of the steady progress made by him and his race engineers throughout today's two hours of preliminary competition.

Winterbottom jumped from tenth in the times to an unassailable first place in the final seconds of the session: “It is a good start to the weekend but the most important thing now is to match today's time, or better it for qualifying tomorrow,” he stated.


“I know the track quite well as I tested here for three years when I was driving for Queensland based teams early in my career and I've carried a lot of this knowledge across to FPR. There are still a couple of areas which I think we can improve on which should help me for qualifying tomorrow.”

Winterbottom was just over six hundredths of a second faster than rival Garth Tander, who is shooting for back-to-back victories at the circuit near Ipswich.

“We were very happy with the way our session went. The car was pretty good out of the truck, and we just needed to tune the car for what it needed, as it is the first time we have had the VE here,” said Garth.

“On our first set of tyres we went faster on lap 40 than we did at the start of that session, so that bodes well for a race package. We put some better tyres on the end there and just got pipped by six-100ths. So, I am very, very happy with the car.

“We made some changes to the car during that session – things we didn't get a chance to try last year – and they worked as expected. We know that there is going to be a lot of opposition from the Queensland teams, because they tested here recently, but they appear to have used all their good tyres there

Tander Kills them in Queensland.Holden’s (Chev) Garth Tander acclaimed a points system that rewards winning after taking the lead in the V8 Supercar Championship Series with his third clean sweep of a race weekend at Queensland Raceway today.

Tander won all three races just as he did in Perth earlier this year and Tasmania in 2005 to take the Championship lead from team-mate Rick Kelly who suffered from a pit lane penalty in the second race of he weekend. Tander won from Team Vodafone pair Jamie Whincup and Craig Lowndes.

But again Tander reiterated his concerns of yesterday of getting through the major endurance races of Sandown and the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 before he starts looking at a maiden Championship.

“I was leading at this stage last year and it all turned pear-shaped in October,” Tander said.

“I’m happy to be leading the Championship but I’m not worried about points gaps or points relative to each other until we finish Bathurst.”

Whilst it may have appeared a fairly comfortable weekend for Tander he assured the 65,000 spectators that it wasn’t plain sailing. That was best demonstrated with the battle of the weekend when he and Mark Skaife came together in the second race.

Tander set up the victory by following on his dominance of the previous day, again being helped by a pit stop disaster for Skaife. The battle up to that point was incredible as Tander and Skaife bashed and barged each other like prize fighters.

“It was certainly a tough weekend. A lot of people have said to me that it looked easy out there but that was far from the truth. We felt we were going to be strong here after last year and though we were going to be given a good run by the Queensland teams.

“It was on for young and old for the first couple of laps there and then he had slow pit stop or something like that. It was disappointing we couldn’t get through on the track but we got it done in the pits.”

Skaife’s cross-threaded wheel nut was the start of a chaotic few minutes in race two when Championship leader Kelly effectively had his weekend stopped when he came out in front of Jason Richards, making contact.

“We made a big mistake and paid for it,” said Kelly.

That led to an automatic drive through penalty which shoved him to the back of the field. He came in again later with a problem that meant he was no chance of making up ground.

The same pit lane period added another magical moment when Whincup came out, squeezing Tander at the first corner. But Tander’s raw pace restored order soon after when he passed Whincup. From there it was catch me if you can.

“We go away from the weekend with a pole and a second and third. We will do a little bit more homework and see if we can catch Garth,” Whincup said.

“What tends to happen sometimes is you get caught in your comfort zone and the track changes completely at a race weekend. You don’t always have an advantage at your home track.”

The Championship now heads to Oran Park in three weeks time.
