Spitfire notes

Came across these sites while looking up Griffon engined Spits. Fascinating stuff for those interested in these classics. The 'manual' is amazing (imagine trying to keep the fuel switching right in the middle of a fight). The cockpit is an absolute nightmare. "Cockpit integration" hadn't been invented yet. I can't imagine why they put the gear handle on the right...'formation take off, anyone'?
Whatever admiration one might have had for the Johnnie Johnsons and D. Baders of the time, seeing what they had to work with raises it it several orders of magnitude. Wow!
