Portable / Dash mounted GPS

Just a quick warning...

Came across the local news the other day.

The bad guys have been staking out cars just parked - break into them and steal the GPS units..

Okay - no big deal right? They got your GPS. You can buy another one for $100 or have the insurance co pick up the tab..

WRONG!!!!

They know you just got there..

They push the "HOME" button on the GPS and now the GPS plots the course directly to a house that may well be unoccupied.

This has been done on numerous occasions here and I'm certain what happens here is not exactly new so I would presume that it's done elsewhere..


The ways to protect yourself are to;

* Re-program the HOME feature to the local Police Station
* Take it with you as the crooks all know the places to look in your car if they see an empty mount on the dash/windshield
* Lock the whole 9 yards (mount and all) in the trunk

i'd also add

wipe off any tell tale marks on the windscreen from the sucker mount!

That was enough to get someone's car targeted over here
