| Mille Miglia - advise needed please Heading to Italy and I see that the Mille Miglia is taking place while I am there. I was wondering if there was anyone who has been to this event and has any advise. I am staying the in the Lucca area. Is there a particularly good location to catch the action somewhere between Rome and Brescia?

| Re: Mille Miglia - advise needed please Mike,
I have not seen the Mille Miglia, but back in the early 1970s, I drove from Florence to Rome on the Via Cassia, and the drive was beautiful.
Here is a list, and if you go somewhere by Viterbo, you will see some really great roads. Mille Miglia - La Corsa pi bella del Mondo

| Re: Mille Miglia - advise needed please The Raticosa or Futa passes (both just north of Florence) are good. The whole thing charges along at such a pace that if you want to see the cars and talk to entrants the best opportunity is at the start in Brescia. |

| Re: Mille Miglia - advise needed please Why not just make a day of it and pop up to Maranello to see them come out of the Ferrari factory (approx 545 pm May 16) plus then you can visit the Galleria plus the merchandise shops and if you time it right take a look at the RM auction stock there that weekend |

I had the fortune to be able to swing by the museum there ~10 years ago and it was well worth the trip. Some really cool stuff out on display in a really nice forum. It was worth the 3h train ride back and forth!

| Re: Mille Miglia - advise needed please I just flew home last night...I was in Florence at the base of the Ponte Santa Trnita bridge across the Arno - I saw all the cars go by up close and personal. Hectic and fun. It will take a few days to download pictures and video, but I will.
A great trip....to a great country.

| Re: Mille Miglia - advise needed please Back in 1960 (in the dark ages), my dad took the family to Italy and see my grand mother and other relatives. We stayed in Florence for a number of nights in the Hotel Mediteranneo (by one of the bridges). It was lovely. We had pizza made in a wood fired oven for a wopping 100 lira (read $0.05 by today's standards !!!! And they were good.
Looking forward to see your photos !!

| Re: Mille Miglia - advise needed please lol...all pizzeria here HAVE to use wood fired oven.
Otherwise it is not a pizza ..and nobody will pay for it.
average price for standard pizza margherita (so tomato and mozzarella and some basilicus) is for 3.5 euros
Italy is really too nice country. Tuscany iand Umbria are also probably one of the nicest places to visit.

I have been to Italy several times and it is rising to my most favorite country status. This trip I rented a farmhouse in the hills overlooking Lucca in Tuscany for about 10 days and then stayed four days in Rome (Hotel 47 Via Petroselli) - awesome) and then the fast train to Venice for some more fun (Hotel Duodo Palace Calle Menelli- awesome). Cinque Terra - awesome.
great wine, great food, great people, beautiful country, plenty of things to see and do - what's not to love? Oh, perhaps the old american disco music you hear every now and then, and then there are the drivers....

| Re: Mille Miglia - advise needed please I have these pics in much larger format if anyone wants a copy - just email me. I have a hundred or more pictures - some of them not so good...these are probably the best of the lot.
I have some high def 1080 video too, but that is another project. |
