Exclamation Lancia Stratos, real or replica?

Real grey and rainy day here today...but I am going right now 300 meters from my house to make some more pictures to this little beauty I saw some days before parked to a local garage.

I really cant recognize if this Lancia is original or not. Some points do not convince me (as the front and rear logo, not from the stratos period),as well as the interior doesnt look as an original one.

The mechaninc reparing this beauty said it is owned by a famous biker living between Milano and Montecarlo.

Just would like to ask to Jerry hawkridge if this car is one of his wonderful creations or if he knows something more about it.
The rims are from Tecnomagnesio.Later on will post more pics,in a better quality.

Really curious to know your opinion about her.
The car is simply lovely..so small and so aggressive. The engine is a correct ferrari unit.

as a guide i use this website from friend of mine.A lot of nice pics inside, have a look..

Re: Lancia Stratos, real or replica?

Paolo,

The Hawk cars are very good, and Mr. Hawkridge's philosophy is to be as accurate as possible. The UK has a Stratos club:
Stratos Enthusiasts Club - www.stratclub.com

They will probably know more.

Ciao for now

Dom

Re: Lancia Stratos, real or replica?

Paolo,
Like you said the hood emblem does not look right. It would be a ring with spike type flagpole and the lancia logo on a flag in the center for that period. Still look's good though. I'd drive it.

Re: Lancia Stratos, real or replica?

Paolo,

One thing about Hawkridge. His cars, not only look like the originals, are engineered to drive like the original. What engine is in that red car you showed in your original post?

Some 10 years back, I knew of a blue Stratos parked at the Hertz rental garage in Biella. It was covered. One of my hill climbing friends, said he knew of a Stratos for sale and the price was something like $150,000 at that time.

The Stratos was engineered in Biella, in a garage that now sells watches.

One of my favorite cars of all times !!!!

ah..I cannot open the car to see whats inside. The mechanic was alone and didnt know me.He was also full of work, so I didnt risk to bore him too much cause he was seriously working.
I only opened the door to see better the cockpit.
Down here a Lancia Stratos gruppo4 is valued around 200.000 euros, if u find one for sale.
I know a guy selling that in the 90s as a partial exchange with a lancia thema 8.32.
He is still crying for that change.

I post some more pics of the car, while I was getting my shower, but for some cars, it really worth it.

Re: Lancia Stratos, real or replica?

I am not an expert on Stratos's but the wheels do not look right. Also the Golf GTI gear lever knob is surely not what the originals had. I believe that some have been built in the Uk with Ferrari V6 engines as per the original but as previously suggested, Jerry Hawkridge might be able to help.

Re: Lancia Stratos, real or replica?

Paolo,
I love those cars. My brother in law had one in the 70's. His was a "street" model like what is pictured there. He is from Rome, by the way.
I had the pleasure of driving that little beast in the mountains near Rietti, where we were living at the time. That led me to buy a Lancia Beta coupe that I later turned into a cross-country racer and had great success with it. Truely wonderful cars that tracked so true at high speeds I could let go of the wheel on smooth pavement portions of the race with out any worries. I still remember that unique driving position of both hands at 4 and 8 0'clock, palms up, with my knees up aginst the dash.
That stratos takes me back. Thank you.
Garry

Sorry, I think I am wrong about the wheels. They could be genuine. Known as "coffin spoke" wheels for obvious reasons.

Re: Lancia Stratos, real or replica?

It's an original car, although someone seems to have taken a few liberties with the detailing during restoration. Perhaps it is one of the Jolly club cars which were completed in the '80s using spares acquired from Lancia? A Hawk/Transformer has a heavier rollcage and the flange underneath the sill is deeper.

Re: Lancia Stratos, real or replica?

Toni,
The car Paolo posted with link earlier in NY looks like it's for sale. No Campeg's on it. One made for the US market with Cromodora's. With the Pound and the Euro so high it may be a good buy if the price is right and you can handle LH drive.

I think the car Paolo posted is in Milan. No problem with LHD. Depends on the money.

suspect as Colin says this car has been badly refurbished.
It anyway looks as an original one, with a lot of mistakes on,and later updates all over.
The car is not for sale (oh well actually guys,u wellknow that everything is always for sale..at the right price),but the owner is not in the conditions to need money, and I still dunno who he is.

The car is 200 meters from my home, a suburb of Milano (20 kmts)

The point we always look to recognize stratos replica is the metal label under the door line.In replicas there is a sort of L u can nearly always see.
This has not,as well as the Gruppo4 wide body was not available at the time over stradale version.
The same for roof air scope.

It is anyway a stunning car I would live to drive.
Still waiting for an answer from Jerry, hope he can tell me something about.
