Matt Lofthouse dies

Charlie Farley

Supporter
In 33 internationals, he scored 30 goals.
A feat never repeated.
He was the Alan Shearer of his day, with over 250 goals for Bolton Wanderers, maybe even greater than Shearer.
Even the Italian clubs wanted him, unheard of until then, in the 1950's.
He told a story about when he was signed by Bolton.
When he signed on, he was paid £10.00 in two white £5.00 notes.
He got home and put the money on the table infront of his Mum & Dad.
They thought he had stolen the money as his Dad only earned £2.50 a week !
Yet another ' gentleman ' legend we have lost....
