Great post, Graham. Interesting, thought provoking and certainly counter-intuitive. Wonder if they looked at indirect rewards for good work, not necessarily monetary, e.g. recognition and admiration from peers? The current hoo-hah in Wisconsin and several states about teachers, government union workers etc. seems to be about money, but the jobs are certainly not menial. Perhaps it's part union instigated (a perfect fit with the lower rung/step of the theory), part principle and part frustration with the economy in general.

That was very, very interesting!

I have sent it to My wife who is involved in much of the high tech stuff. I also sent it to me brother-inlaw who is a Business Prof at USC.

I'll be interested in there opinions.
