Yeah, it makes the cost of a HANS insignificant, doesn't it.
Even though its not mandated in the IP class and our speeds are a lot slower, I'm seriously looking at one.
 
Take a look at the Leatt Brace as well. A bit bulkier about the shoulders, but appears to have more adjustability than the HANS. The website points out the injury types it protects against which a HANS doesn't. Leatt is a South African neurosurgeon that got sick of seeing teenage motocrossers with broken necks. There's models for bikes, cars, karts and so on. I wouldn't go back to karting without one.


There's a video of a crosser on the leatt website having a classic backflip crash, landing on his noggin, jumping up and running for his bike without realising that 5 years ago he'd have snapped his spine in two and been a quadraplegic.
