The storm has been continually downgraded and that is a good thing. In our family we have two beach houses in NC, both at Emerald Isle, about 25 miles West (at this estimate) from where Irene is to make landfall. The beach house that my family had for nearly 40 years was flattened in 1998, so we hope to not see a repeat of that action!

I hope that everyone in the area remains safe, even the idiots that have chosen to stay have have drunken hurricane parties.
