Le Mans spotters guide

Gus,

regarding the Nissan Delta car.

Having been up close to this car during testing at Snetterton here in the UK before it went off to Europe, and followed with great interest its performance throughout its development i,ve got real hopes for it doing suprisingly well and hopefully finishing the race. I think this whole project is just fantastic and a welcome boost to the fairly "all look alike" grid.

I,ve tried to put some pictures onto this reply for you but it keeps on failing to work, which is a shame. However, there is much on the world wide webb and you will find plenty of fascinating information about this project. What i love about it all is the total enthusiasm and open book nature of it all. Members of the team, including Ray Mallock were so open with their answers to all questions and there was no barring of detail photography.

I,m into historic racing, but i would love to have a drive in it. It looks so different and stable on track from my observations close up at Snetterton and it will be making real motorsport history.

Applause must be given to Nissan for such out of the box thinking. I hope the car turns into something more than a footnote into racing history.

Interesting videos I have found on the car.

Just learned that its the only car running in its experimental class. So, I guess its not really running against anything..

Good to yet again see British Designers & Engineers dominating and leading the way in the field, just like in Formula 1 , as historically, always has been.

The Night Before Le Mans (in Box 56)

‘Twas the night before Le Mans, and all through the chateau
... Not an engine was roaring, I dreamt of a Rondeau.

The helmets were hung in the garage with care,
Crews hoping speed and reliability both would be there.

The drivers were restless for what lay ahead,
While visions of champagne danced in their heads.

My thoughts were of Pescarolo, Bell and Capello,
Porsche and Matra, red cars from Maranello.

Mulsanne and Arnage, Jaguar and Ford;
Bentley and Lola, a fast Lizard for Jorg.

Holbert and Herrmann… legends of the past;
Audi is favored, but the Toyotas are fast.

When out on the track there arose such a sound,
I sprang from the bed to see what was around.

What could be running, this time of night?
Or am I imagining tomorrow’s epic fight?

The glow of the Rolex clock on the tarmac below,
Reminded me of Sebring- just two months ago.

When what to my wondering eyes should arrive?!?!
But the Nissan DeltaWing out for a drive!!!

With the red hair and glasses, it was easy to see,
The DeltaWing driver was our own Dr. P.

Challenging the drivers who have earned Le Mans fame,
He whistled and shouted and called them by name:

“Now Dindo, now TK, now Marino and Brabs!
On Allan. On Loic. On Romain and Mags!

Come to the pits, and whatever you bring,
See if you can catch the DeltaWing!”

With radical design and Michelin tyres that stick,
Dr. P claimed there was magic in Box fifty-six.

So up to the track, the drivers arrived,
Even though it was only a quarter-to-five.

I ran to the press room, to alert journalist all,
But only John Dagys answered the call.

Just when I thought a match race I would see,
The Gendarmes arrived to arrest Dr. P.

Alas I awoke, it was only a dream,
There was no match race for the DeltaWing.

But in the distance, Dr. P. could be heard,
I am certain these were his very words:

“DeltaWing is fast, you soon will learn,
And yes this odd car REALLY does turn.

Happy Le Mans to all,
Now lets have a good fight.”

I saw the delta wing qualified in 24th. Not bad for a team. That people said would not even make a turn. I really don't care how well it dose. But it will be a interesting to see how it dose.

Members of the Nissan Deltawing team are saying that Nissan will be taking this technology and applying it to their road cars.

Somehow I have doubts about this.

What part of it? I don't know munch about this car other then it looks like the bat mobile. I cant recall is it a hybrid? If no I don't want to see what looks like a big wheel on my streets. I know it has four wheel but that is what it looks like.

I wonder what will happen when it rains. With the front wheels that close. That can not end good. For crying out loud people roll normal 4 wheel cars all the time. Give these idiots pretty munch three wheels. It will bet it wont last long. Throw in snow and forget about it.
