Sad incident for the passenger in the F430

The NHTSA has just added another "safety rating" category...a frontal impact, but not an impact that involves a full head-on, only impact involving the left front (driver's side) fender. That is said to more accurately reflect the nature of most head-on accidents. The information I read indicated that without the engine to absorb most of the impact energy, the resulting devastation was much more severe and the inhabitants of the car stood less chance of surviving. Makes sense to me.
The pics of this accident show a F430 that is just plain split down the middle...all the way to the back, where the engine apparently stopped the forward motion...with horrid results!
No engine in the front....these mid-engine cars we all love must be real death traps in frontal impacts.

It's a common sight in the US around many of the racing tracks around the country to see people driving as though they were racing at high rates of speed. Many wrecks... Had he been going a little bit faster he would have succeeded in cutting that beautiful car totally in two pieces lengthwise!
Feel badly for the parents / family of the young lad who trusted the driver to keep him safe..

it looks like he hit a very rigid iron lamppost (lays flat in the picture) and that split the car, and then he goes up that sloping guardrail.
