R.I.P Mrs. Thatcher

It's a shame that the leaders of today don't have the honor and intestinal fortitude that this women had. R.I.P.

A great warrior for freedom.

Parliament hadn't had balls as big as hers since Wellington (one exception, old Winnie of course) and since Thatcher we have mice.

Sadly missed.

Even those who may have disagreed with some of her policies, must surely acknowledge her honesty & integrity. She didn't lie or sugar coat things, if a hard decision had to be made, she made it and gave her reasons.

Too many recent PM's & politicians have convinced gullible sections of society that it is possible to have your cake and eat it, even if you haven't got a cake to start with.........

"Thatcher, the milk snatcher!" I understand goes to her time under Heath when she did away with the "all children's free milk" act from 1946.

I also heard a couple more nicknames today on the radio I can't recall.

A woman hated by many but respected by all. Great Partriot indeed.

Rick, your comment "Thatcher, the milk snatcher!" I'd read twice a day as a local graffiti artist painted those exact words under a railway bridge I had to drive through everyday in Ipswich, England. It's the first thing I thought of when I heard the sad news. RIP Mrs Thatcher.

...and although the Labor Party and the unions - especially the coal miners (and the U.K.'s socialist contingents in general as well) - all screamed bloody murder about her policies, as a direct result of them the unemployment rate in the U.K. went down from 13% to 5.7 or 5.8 during her tenure as I recall.

'Can't argue with the 'endorsement' that figures like those reflect.

Actually you can.

"Lies, Damned Lies and Statistics". Look at the level it was at when she first came to power.

I know you guys don't like graphs but with reference to the one below Thatcher was Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1979 to 1990.

1982: UK unemployment tops three million
The number of people out of work in Britain has risen above three million for the first time since the 1930s.

A great leader and fantastic states-person. The world has lost one of its greatest political leaders, and the UK has lost one of its greatest patriots.

A woman who fought the forces of Communism at home and abroad, and won.

She will be sadly missed. Its a shame we have none of her ilk today.

Her and Reagan really grabbed teh Western world by the scruff of the neck and dragged them out of the doldrums, and dealt masterfully with the demise of the Soviet Union. While I disagree with many of their economic policies, we were lucky to have both in 80s because their approach to teh SU -- firm but fair, trust but verify -- was exactly what was needed to walk the fine line between chaos on the one side and hard line crack down on the other.
