The only acception that comes to mind right now is a perp (or perps) committing a home invasion or a mugging (putting aside a wholsale incursion of country "A" into country "B" for the moment). In cases like those, armed violence is the ONLY solution. Any other response is 'pie-in-the-sky' garbage because it will most likely be totally ineffective and might prove to be fatal for the vic, IMHO.
