It's becoming a disasterous Christmas with my mate from Sheffield losing his life to Lung Cancer today. Joe lived in on a small ranch in Santa Barbara and gave up the bottle in the early nineties. I was priviledged to know him and saw him perform so many times. Farewell Joe.

Joe Cocker . 1944- 2014 RIP.

The last three tracks on the Fire it up CD from the tour in 2013:

9. The Letting Go
10. I'll Walk In The Sunshine Again
11. Weight Of The World

Yeah, what David said.

My all time favourite male singer. He lasted longer than I expected. I worked with him once with Leon Russell, when he was a total 'H' head. How he survived it I know not.

I'm glad he did although he was never as prolific again sorry to say...

Not bad for a plumber!

Very sad to hear regardless of his life style. One of my all time favorite "screamers." The man could scream a note better then anyone else I've heard in tune and on key! In the long play version of his rendition of "I GET BY WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM MY FRIENDS' he is world class. Delta Lady and so many others what a shame.

One funny moment about Joe.....his Woodstock performance...isn't their a YouTube video where they provide sub-titles to him singing because no one can understand what the hell he's saying. Classic Joe Cocker and who can forget John Belushi doing his impression of Joe Cocker on Saturday Night Live.

RIP JOE...SORRY TO SEE YOU GO.

Truly a loss.
Singers with his ' note ' on interpretation don't exist anymore.
In David's video link, it's clear that however, the best was long gone.
So many backing singers says it all.
In his heyday, he didn't need them, filled the hall with just his voice.
Question is, was he a Marlboro man or Camel ?

Early days it was Park Drive. finally Senior Service or Players Navy Cut.
Anything with a tip - the tip was removed. I went through that phase as well before setting on Rothmans King size and 60 per day.

About the time I tried and failed to cut the grass for the third day in a row.
16:00 ish is the time( I think) the ambulance came. 18:00 was the blue light transfer and police escort into London.
Never touched one since.

Interesting. I gave up on the same day I was diagnosed with Emphysema. The surgeon was very direct. He said that I had it and told me I would be "in a wheelchair by Christmas" if I didn't quit. I couldn't even spell it, didn't know what it was and received absolutely zero information from the NHS on how to cope with it. As far as I am concerned however, that is the only black mark against them.

I quit at 1738 on May 8th 2007. Didn't make a fig of difference, but I would not have been alive today if I hadn't have quit when I did. Amazing we had our "Road to Damascus" moments within less than 8 weeks of each other..

Joe had one of the most unique voices in rock/blues. While I am normally not a big fan of covers of Beatles tune, Cocker's "Little Help from my Friends" is SO far superior to the original "pop" version that they are not the same song. The organ/percussion intro leading to his blues vocal is shattering!

'At the stroke of midnight, New Years Eve, 1963, while attending a N.Y.E. party.

'Odd how we each can remember the exact time and place no matter how different the circumstances, huh.

At least we all stopped. It was so stupid really, and my family were begging me for years to give up the cigarettes. One saving grace - when I was in my mid teens, I made a shed load of dosh selling them to the Germans (this was in the early nineteen-sixties).
