| Another strange 917 picture
Here a picture from Le Mans 69. Some interesting things on that car (#003):
It`s max. weight was written on the inside of the rear deck (1100 kg) and if you look underneath the car`s rear they were already playing with ideas of ground effect when installing those fins.
Also a nice view on those movable flaps, which were almost banned by the officials since they were regarded dangerous and against the rules. Porsche`s by then racing manager Rico Steinemann in return threatened to withdraw the whole Porsche fleet from the race. Do demonstrate that the cars were far more dangerous to drive without those flaps works driver Rolf Stommelen drove his car on a demo lap without the flaps with the car weaving all over the place...(Only much later he admitted that he put up a rather pretty show for the officials.) |
