1967 Le Mans

Read an interesting article on the 1967 Le Mans last night. The winning Gurney/Foyt Mk IV (besides the winning distance of 3,249.6 miles @ and average speed of 135.48 mph) made 17 pit stops, used 20 quarts of oil and averaged 5.5 miles per gallon. Anyone know how that stacks up against the current endurance racers?

Re: 1967 Le Mans

It's a bit hard to say. The track is different. The Mulsanne has chicanes. The cars generate a lot more downforce. Brakes are MUCH better. They run restrictors. Etc,etc, etc

What's your average consumption in J6 on a race track Jim (or do you try to not think about that)?

Re: 1967 Le Mans

On the road I get about 15mpg but as it holds 44 gallons it's not a prob.

Re: 1967 Le Mans

Brian,
I've just asked the question to Ralf Juttner, the team Manager at Audi Joest who ran the R8 2000 to 2002 and hopefully he will divulge tomorrow as its not a car in their arsenal this year.
