New Old Picture

Here's a candid shot taken at Sebring(?) in 1968 or 1969. Is that a cigar-smoking John Wyer tuning a GT40?

The mechanic looks more appropriately dressed for the task.

Does the "hands on the hips" indicate he knew it was best to defer to the Boss?

Re: New Old Picture

The mechanic with hands on hips is Ermanno Cuoghi. He worked for Carrol Shelby on the Cobras at Le Mans and went on to mechanic for Niki Lauda in F1 at Ferrari and Brabham.

Brian.

Re: New Old Picture

Great photo. There's a good biography titled 'Ermanno Cuoghi, Mechanic to a World Champion' charting his career and detailing some interesting stories on race-car development and racing history. It's over 20 years old but may still be available.

Cheers.

Rob
