GT40's racing in Sydney Aus - when?

GT40\'s racing in Sydney Aus - when?

Here's one for the historians. I just got hold of some original b&w photo's of two GT40's racing at Sydney's Amaroo Park. Judging by the "Holden Dealer Team" jacket and proliferation of large moustaches, my guess would be mid-late 70's.

Re: GT40\'s racing in Sydney Aus - when?

I've been able to track down some more info on those photos with the help from Tim and another very helpful GT40 owner. And of course, by searching the web.

The photos are from the early 1980's at Amaroo Park, just outside Sydney. It was the Friday before Historic Races that were going to be held on the weekend.

The crashed car was owned & driven by Laurie O'Neil. The GT40 impacted the rock wall going up Bitupave Hill. Laurie O-Neil was uninjured. This chassis was an ex-Shelby demonstrator car, chassis number P1018 I believe. An inspection of this same chassis by a potential buyer a while back, indicates that chassis still shows signs of damage from this accident, even though rest of car has been repaired.

The other car was owned by Bruce Spicer and is chassis number P1061.

Rob, that was a good guess. Definitely not P1034 in pics though, looks like it is P1061 instead.

If anyone has any further information or corrections to above information, would be much appreciated. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
