Holden One Tonner race car!!!!

Just in the middle of a quick project. I got a One Tonner cab for free, I then scored a late model chassis for $150. Quick bit of research I found the chassis width and the body width of a C5 Corvette is the same as the Holden One tonner. results! One Tonner @1270kg, 600RWHP, C5 suspension with coilovers, 50/50 balance.

Holden One Tonner.
Modified Chassis.
2004 ZO6 drivetrain and suspension.
Torque Tube lenghtened 10 inches Carbon Fibre drive shaft.
Kenne Bell Whipple Supercharger.
20x13 20x8 Rushforth rims.
Toyo 345/25/20 245/35/20 tires
Heres some pic's of the parts

You're right Simon. These things are getting rare even here. A full (circa 1960) chassis commercial vehicle built by Holden (GM), with a ute type cab and a flat top tray section. Left in limbo when Holden moved forward with their passenger car range. Very popular with the tradies of the world, and becoming ever more desirable. Usually fitted with a 308 CI motor. Built up until about 10 years ago, but I will stand correcting.

As noted by Tim, a prize candidate for transferring the Corvette mechanicals into. No idea what cab/bodywork you would use. But what a sleeper!

These are a One Tonner. I had a bet with some mates that own HSV Commodores (Vauxhall VXR8) that I could make a Old, Holden One Tonner out perform there cars on a budget of $25 grand. The cab is being painted now, will post some pic's of the chassis on the table with the suspension setup this week.

I got a rolling chassis from ebay, the car was a 2004 ZO6 with 31,000miles on it. The conversion is straight forward except for the torque tube which was legthened 10" to match the One tonners 114" wheelbase. The rear chassis rails are modified width wise, this allows the 13" wide rims to fit. The parts that where expensive are the driveshaft and the billet RHD Corvette steering rack.

Here is a video on the supercharger kit running numbers on the dyno.
It has over 600ft/lb torque from 2000rpm, hence the 345 tyres on the back

The best part about buying a rolling chassis is the parts that come with it. Steering coloum, brake booster, twin fuel tanks, exhaust, brake lines, full wiring harness, pedal assembly, radiator etc......
Pic of the lengthed torque tube, always wondered watching F1 when I would run a Carbon fiber parts in a road car.
The corvette suspension cradle is easy to adapt to older style chassis.
The corvette leafs are being replaced with coil overs, mind you the C5 can still pull 1.03G on the skid pad.

Tim, no Ford parts then? You could be a pioneer in building bridges between the Holden and the Ford camps. Or are the feelings so high you might get lynched? Looks like you will have one hell of a ute there and if you are taking bets with your mates you should be quite safe looking at the amount of effort you are putting in. looking forward to seeing the finished article.

Fan of all cars really, if it was standard it would have a Ford 9 inch diff. When this project is finished I'll be talking to Craig White about one of Frans GT40's. Imagine what I'd do to that!!!!

Thomo,

An awesome effort very much like what I am embarking on at the moment.

Am hoping to be able to make contact as I am also in Australia (Gold Coast) and have full C5 platform (from a Caddilac XLR-V) to go into my old Tonner.

Couldnt believe it when I saw your post of having esentially been there done that.

Would be very keen to see the pics of your build which appear to have been moved or taken down from the forum.

Mike.
