RCR's at Pit Rally's Central City Hill Climb, CO

Got a chance to head up to Central City, CO, and watch this well-organized Hill Climb and Drifting event. Ran into Jim Bauer and his beautiful SLC. Videos are being posted each day so I'm sure Jim will soon be posting a few on-board videos of his 2016 run up the mountain.

One of Jim's 2015 runs can be viewed here: https://youtu.be/JFTLcFuBj9o

Video of my GT-40 and my buddy's Cobra leaving the show area.

Looks like fun. How come you did not run your GT40? I thought you did not like cruising and would rather race ;)

I live near there and drove the route last year the day before the event. There is a rock query up there and lots of truck traffic on that road. It was covered in pebbles and is not smooth at all. One guy a know with a Ford GT did the event and busted his windshield and chipped up his paint pretty good. Following another car at 130mph with tires like your sticky Avons is just asking to get peppered. Would be a lot more inviting if they let you leave the line 30 secs apart and the road was not so uneven.

Hey Mikey,
Yeah, they run most everyone in groups and most have a pace car that oftentimes is faster than the cars following. I would have loved to run it in a shifter kart....there were a few running this year.

I think they did a good job of sweeping the road clean this year. I didn't hear many pebbles tapping the inside of the fenders, even at the apex. Heard from several people that the event has made some large improvements from the past couple of years.

Rich Barnes brought a couple of Ford GT's this year but did not run them.

No racing in the GT-40 (yet). It turned 800 miles over the weekend and so far the shakedown process is going well. However, the EFI needs to be tuned. I've got a dyno appointment next week to get the mid-range AFRs in line. Planning on a test and tune at High Plains Raceway in Sept to start nailing the suspension settings next.

Not interested in cruising our cars on Broadway, as you suggested, but spirited mountain drives are more fun. Still planning to do 24 hrs in my car, stopping only for gas...CO, UT, NV, AZ, NM, CO....either this fall or next Spring.

I only stated it would be a sight to see. I stay out of the city unless its 6am Sunday morning when I have the streets to myself. My drives are almost up one of the canyons on the front range. You got my #...
