Being a novice, I am having difficulty understanding why the parking brake cable spring is so long. I am not able to get it compressed to fit in a direct line between the cable mount and the attachment point. I have not yet connected to the brake handle so I am trying to do this bare handed. Should this spring be shortened? There is a spring in the caliper as well as the cable, so I don't feel a shorter spring will compromise the "return" of the caliper. Any help is appreciated.
