Fiberglass stress cracking

Took the car out last weekend for a quick run. When I got back I noticed a 14" long crack in the hood - directly above the latch on the drivers side. It has sheared clean thru.

Stress?

Looking at your photos the crack spans the Aerolatch and dowel area. There would be some strain in that area but not nearly enough to cause your problem, unless you have a bad resin/glass ratio or inadequate laminate thickness. I would suspect thickness especially if the laminate has the same appearance from the rear as the rest of you bodywork. I had a composites manufacturing business for many decades and only ever saw a crack like this caused by considerable impact, but it can be caused as outlined above

I needed to reinforced the body of my SLC in several places to avoid your problem.

That really sucks.
I read the post and certainly wasn't expecting THAT level of a crack.
I hope a good body shop can fix it well.

Was this on the gelcoat? Or was this car sanded and painted? Never seen anything that big on my gelcoat in 19,000 miles
