Question adaptor plate /starter motor A8

having installed all parts according to the manual I now find that cannot get the starter motor to engage on the fly wheel .Have viewed the area using the work endoscope having removed the clutch slave cylinder.
Has any one had issues in this area with either accuracy of the starter motor adaptor or the adaptor plate (note this is the 6 speed audi a8 gearbox). looks like the engine /gear box will have to come back out and all be striped and re examined!!
Any suggestions

Re: adaptor plate /starter motor A8

could this be a previous mentioned problem!!
Having chatted to jerry evans followed by spark plugs out ,removed starter turned engine by hand crank(helish stiff but is an new unit)then looked at sump next to inside edge of sstarter found a screw indent which is a live wire obviously earthing out and draining the starter power.
Tomorrow looks like the sump will get a good beating to clear this problem and a good layer of heat resistant silicon to prevent this happenning again.
Had read about this in a previous thread ,hope the sump will accept its now immenent alteration

Huw

Go to Mark Worthington's build in the Builders Forum and you can see pictures of this stage of his car and the way he overcame the issues.
