I did something very similar. I made my flywheel to suit the rover ring gear on the back, and the Audi clutch on the front. My adaptor plate is 16 mm thick, with an 8 mm recessed area for the ring...

Nice to see some progress.

You bold using the power tools on the soft foam/filler surface. if you lean on a power tool for just too long it puts a flatspot or divot in that has to be fixed later....
