The price will drop $1,000 per week until sold, starting 5-27-03.
Where are all the buyers waiting for a 30,000 kit? HERE IT IS. Don't miss out.

With stuff like this not selling I have trouble believing the folks that say want an inexpensive kit and GT40s should cost so much, blah, blah, blah.

This is a bargin, the GTD is a well supported car and someone should jump all over it.

I have to echo Ron's comments. So far I've had 12 emails about the car, sent out pictures to all, and had only 1 call to talk about the car. What gives ? Price? Let me know, I thought this was what people were looking for based on all the posts a few months ago about affordable GT40s.

Why are you selling? What is needed to complete the kit? If you want to email a list of missing and/or included components feel free to do so. Cheers Richard.

Well I know I was one of those, but I have not expressed any real interest in this one due to the distance ("limited delivery" was quoted).

If you were selling this in the UK I expect it would have been sold by now (I might be wrong).

I have been after a GT40 ever since ERA came out with theirs. Something always came up to when I had the money saved I had to spend it on a new car, College, Daughters class trip to Spain or something else non-automotive. I am fortunate enough now that I could buy my CAV40, but if I was in a different position I would jump at deal like this. Especially with as much info and help that is available on this forum.

This is probably not the "kit" for the first time builder.

1. No construction manual
2. No well defined list of parts needed
with prices.
3. No assurance that other manufacturer's
parts will fit (exhaust, drive shafts)
4. No experience with Pantera suspension
(other than on a Pantera)

True the GTD is well supported in the UK.
But not in the US. Next owner would probably
have to rely on assistance from various
sources all over the world, which is fine...but not what the market wants.

Market wants one stop shopping at a "Cobra-like" price for hardware, software, and after sale technical support. Then you will
see sales in the hundreds rather than 10 or
20 or 30 per year.

This is not to say this "kit" is not good quality or a good value...simply my opinion why it may not have sold yet.

There is a build manual available for this car as I have made copies of mine and sent them for free to others on the forum.
There does not need to be a list of parts needed to complete the car as everything not listed is needed.
GTD cars are well supported around the world and in this country too, this forum proves that.
As for a complete one stop shopping ..that is available but not for the prices that this guy is asking.
We all know that you can can buy a kit anywhere from 40-75k that includes nearly all the parts you need, but that is not the incentive here.
The idea is to give someone that cannot come up with it all at once the opportunity to get into a quality car and build as they have time and money.
These cars are not Cobras and never will be and will always appeal to a different crowd even though they will be appreciated by all that see them.
I am frustrated by the number of "naysayers" and dreamers that have shown an interest in an affordable car and when they become available people want to find a reason taht it is all of a sudden not such a great deal!!!!My MK3 was a prime example, after a lengthy rebuild the car is basically a GTD with rod end suspension and ready to go..al this for under $30k with fresh paint and all the help and advise you could wish for!!!
Phew...glad thats off my chest

When I built my Cobra many years ago I started with a bare body. Built my own frame, A arms, rebuilt the engine and wired it. Seems to me there are a lot of guys that don't really enjoy building and working on a car. I built my own stuff because I had too. If I could have got one of the kits like factory five, etc. and could have afforded it I would have been right there. I am probabally a lot older than lots of guys on this forum, but give me a wrench over a golf club any day! Just look at the great job Hershal did on his car and iot makes me happy that there are still grassroots guys. The car for sale is just looking for the right guy.

To answer some questions, I have broken down what is needed to finish the car. I have been purposely liberal with the numbers, and I know it can be built for less, as Fran Hall and I have both proved.

Drivetrain 6000
Exhaust 1000
Brakes/Lines 1000
Glass 400
Int/Seats/Carpet 1200
Gauges 500
Pedal Assy/Steer Col/
Steer Rack/Steer Wheel 700
Alum Panels/Rivets 400
Gear Shift/Linkage 200
Radiator/Pipes/Hoses 600

Total 12000

I know that it can be done for much less, if need be, and these are approximate costs, so please don't start a flame war on how much you spent on yours. You are saving approx 5,000 on shipping alone.

I do have a build manual with the car, parts and upgrades are readily available from several suppliers. Mike is right on one thing, this is not a first time kit builder unless you have some mechanical skill, but it's also not the space shuttle.

Hope this answers some questions out there, if you would like to talk about the car, agree or disagree, I can be reached at 989-684-4013.

Gordy/Fran

PLEASE don't take this the wrong way.
I am only providing an opinion to perhaps explain a result (or lack of result).

I looked at Tornado's website minutes ago.
They offer their rolling chassis with complete suspension for $ 11,995 plus
$ 1,000 crating and $ 865 shipping to USA.
You will spend another $ 1,200 on duty/fees,
total $ 15,060.

So yes...the asking price of $ 15,500 is
very fair, not to mention immediate shipment. I'm sure it will soon be sold.

But my point was that price alone is NOT the
only reason Factory Five redefined
the Cobra market...and price alone will
not re-define the GT40 market.
It's a combination of product, delivery, service, and price ALL in one package
from one vendor, at one time.

By the way Fran...not to digress...
but I sympathize with your plight on the
MK III for sale. Americans can be very
funny that way. They want their musclecars
with V-8 s and "manly" paint colors.

I had a SUPER nice musclecar with green paint and green interior and could NOT sell
it to anyone. Couldn't give it away.
After I spent $ 600 on a cheapo red paint job and swapped in a black interior,
I sold it within a week for thousands more
than I had originally asked.

And I can assure you a Cobra with a V-6
would sell about as well in the US
as posion ivy at a nudist colony.
You'd probably be better off selling it LESS the motor. Looks more "manly" that way.

As always...just my opinion.
Best of luck selling.

Gordy - to tell you the truth, I would
buy it in a heartbeat - if I wasn't in the
middle of renovating the house and putting
it up for sale!

With access to guys like Bud, Howard, and
Fahrad here in NorCal, who have GTD experience,
and all the blokes in the UK who always seem to
have the tried and true answers, as well as
suppliers, I think I would have no problem.

Alas, my garage is filled with other crap
right now.

This sounds like a good deal to me.. especially since it meets my budget at the moment

I have never built a gt40 or seen one in progress so i am kinda curious how hard parts like exhaust/windows items like that are to come by? Not trying to steal this post, just curious as i have been watching this post for a few days...

And i LOVE that light blue gt40 for sale.. but as others have said.. the V6 kills it for me

There is an engine /trans combo available for an extra $4k to make the car just what you want.
The engine is all new with hi performance parts, the trans is a Porsche unit with adapter plate and all flywheel/clutch components.
This is a great deal and worth far more than the asking price.
I rebuilt the car to take a V8 but I did not want to do the rest of the conversion...I thought the price would be attractive enough fro someone else to take over the easy part.
I no,longer have a vested intereset in the car as it now belongs to Chris Kogan but I did all the hard work and I would like to see it go to a new enthusiastic owner.
Blue never looked "unmanly" going down the Mulasnne straight at 200mph albeit with a couple of orange stripes,
Victor(new CAV owner) has the engine package and will sell it to anyone interested, including the buyer of Gordys package..

Just to remind everyone, the price went to 14,500 as of today.

This post is starting to get out of hand, so let me clarify some misinformation that has been posted.
The Toronado package Mike spoke of does not include items that I am, such as wheels and tires, chromed suspension, single vent hatch, and most importantly, immediate availablity.
As to price, with the current exchange rate, the Toronado will cost 17,400, including crating, if equiped as mine is. And if anyone can find shipping for less than 4 to 5k, I'm interested.
This is not to in any way disparage the Tornado. I wanted to buy one a few months ago, but did not want to wait 10 months, plus shipping time. I have seen them before, and they are great cars, as is GTD.

Don't miss out!

Gordy, I'm surprised it has lasted this long. I'm going to see if I can stir up any local interest. For those guys standing on the sidelines worried about jumping into the pool, this is your chance. Grab this car, join the GTD club, make contacts with the guys in the states and let her rip. There are all kinds of folks willing to help.
