Measuring Drive Axles / CV Joints

I'm using an Audi 016 gearbox and need to measure drive axles. What is the proper method of doing this?

Also, does anyone have a recommendation for CV joints for this gearbox? I know Porsche 930s are stout. Anyone check the bolt pattern to see if they fit this application?
