GT40 side windows(less)

Hi Guys,

I have been builing a GT40 "forever" and now happily I have come to the point of installing the side windows. They consisted of thin perspex, slightly curved. When working on the car I put them on the back of my pickup standing next to the 40. Some time later my wife took the pickup and ambled off to the shop. When she came back the windows were gone. Well so much for that.

So now I have a 40 that is "side windowless", due to my own stupidity. So I oviously need to get replacements. Can any of you please give some advice where I should go to enquire about such items. I bought the kit some 15 years ago, so I hope there would be some more fancy designs available today. The company where I bought the original kit are long gone.

Many thanks.

I'm presuming the manufacturer of your kit no longer exists?

I'm sure all the current manufacturers have windows for their cars. I have just fitted the side windows to my RF40. They a similar to what you described, but they are made of lexan (I think) similar to the visor on a motorcycle helmet. Its regarded as less likely to shatter than perspex but its also more expensive.

GT40 australia have side windows which can be removed which is a nice touch.

The big question for you is will they fit. Who knows? The replicas are different enough for that to be hard to guarantee.

Both Roaring Forties and GT40 Australia have websites as probably do most of the other manufacturers. If you are looking for particular features maybe you can see if you can find what you are looking for there.

After that sending cardboard templates of your window frame to one of the manufacturers may be a good idea.

Clive,
If you'd like e-mail me and I will measure my RF windows. If they will fit even with minimal trimming I sure Robert will be glad to help you.

Clive,

And all, GT40 NZ has is a specialist in GT40 parts and spares. I'll do an online quote for all. We will have a GT40 parts site www.gt40parts.com shortley with a revised web site (the prices have changed so don't hesitate to ask)

What we can provide is a complete assembly of side windows with aircraft spec material (tinted when in runs so ask) with crafted subwindows )fittings,

.3mm laser cut and all assembled.

The cost for the set complete with SS fixings is NZ$990 plus delivery (around US$660). I am also looking at having the fixing holes laser drilled so the nerves which sometimes get a work out when drilling plastics are relaxed.

Hope this helps,
